Looking for some creative split ticketing for a single from Nottingham to Newcastle this Sunday with a YP railcard. Have looked at splitting at Chesterfield, Sheffield and York and the best price I can get is around £20.

I thought Sheffield straight away although TPE do a student discount with a Y-P railcard so you could split at York or even Manchester.

Probably will just get the one I found, if it is still there. Thought there may be a split that I haven't heard of before. Thanks for the ideas.

I doubt it, as you're looking for AP not walk-on. You may find a cheap deal on TPE (using the half price offer) from York (or Leeds), but you'd need to get to York/Leeds first... You could try specifying via Barnsley to get an EMT&Connections, also specifying via Rotherham may help.

I had a look at getting a day single to Chesterfield, then a single from Chesterfield to Sheffield, a single to Doncaster and advance tickets from there. Seems to be the same sort of price as advance throughout, unless the advance prices have changed since this morning.

Dronfield can be a good place to split (but not in this case), Dronfield to Cattal is good value and highly flexible.

Nottingham-Chesterfield SDS is £9.10, but that's not a good ticket because Nottingham to Mexborough is better value at £9.70. (Don't book to the station 3 miles further as the price more than doubles).

Mexborough-Doncaster is only £2.70, so you can do Nottingham to Donny for under £12

Aye that looks a bit better, £12 not too bad and have an advance from Donny to Newcastle as well.
