No but it usually duplicates a service so it can be traceable using the vehicle it's duplicating. It *should* be on 58 tomorrow and 89 Wednesday.

Nottingham City Transport is celebrating after being crowned Large Bus Operator of the Year 2024 in the routeone Awards.

The routeone Awards, the most esteemed awards programme in the UK coach and bus industry, recognises operators and individuals who have driven innovation and success.

To be considered for an award, finalists were first nominated by industry peers, with a judging panel of respected industry experts meticulously reviewing each entry to recognise winners that exemplify the highest standards of excellence.

The judges noted that all seven finalists in the Large Operator of the Year category run buses in challenging urban environments, where congestion poses a major difficulty. Despite that, each delivers a successful operation. The judges highlighted Nottingham City Transport for its effective blend of both tradition and innovation, noting that it “continues to impress, has invested in its fleet, and remains a key part of daily life for its customer base”

Picking up the award with colleagues yesterday (13th November 2024) at the Vox, Resorts World in Birmingham, NCT Managing Director, David Astill said, “It is a credit to the whole team at NCT that we continue to be recognised for the sterling efforts that we all make every day to deliver services that our customers can rely on. My thanks go to all of our team who work so hard to make this recognition possible. I’d also like to thank the many partners we work with, particularly Nottingham City Council and Nottinghamshire County Council who support us through the local Bus Service Improvement Plan and our long standing enhanced partnership in Nottingham, which sees operators and local authorities working together to deliver high quality bus services”.

“These awards highlight the industry’s commitment to environmental stewardship, customer service, and accessibility,” says routeone Awards Event Director Helen Conway. “Each finalist and winner represents an important step forward in making public transport cleaner, greener, and more accessible for all, providing reliable services that meet the needs of diverse communities across the UK.

In the last twelve months, NCT has introduced its first 24 electric buses, with 24 more due to enter service early next year; has carried 2.5% more customers on its buses; has introduced new app features for its customers and has expanded its network to serve new housing developments like Chase Farm and Edwalton Fields.

Does anyone know what happened in Nottingham this evening to disrupt buses down Derby Road so much? Was waiting at Canning Circus for a 36 (or indigo) towards Beeston just after 4pm, no 36s turned up for 40 minutes, but stacks of 34s and 35s were turning up bunched together, and pretty much every bus towards town bunched with 2 or 3 on the same route.

TrentBarton were no better with triple bunched indigos into town and i4s/Red Arrows leaving town, but no outbound indigos, and even CT4N's 18 failed to show up after the departure screen counted it down. Ended up having to walk half way and then get on the tram instead.

I could've got to Bulwell, University Park or Derby several times over but none of the routes to Beeston were running!

I did notice a comment on the Trentbarton page. Their Indigo service, outbound, seemed reasonably to time, until 16.00 and went late. . Have the roadworks finished on Maid Marion Way?

The road works are still there, where the traffic lights are badly timed. I asked the various operators on social media and Trent said they'd had reports of delays on the indigo, and CT4N directly cited the Maid Marian Way works as the issue. I haven't heard back from NCT yet. Everything seemed to go to pot around 4pm.

Checking on Bustimes the 36 and indigo departures either side of 16:00 departed bunched up, and the next timetabled outbound departures around 16:15 didn't set off until 16:45-ish.

The crazy part is NCT 34s, 35s, TrentBarton i4s, Red Arrows and the CT4N L2 all got through fine. Just none of the routes to where I specifically needed weren't turning up!
I kind of wished NCT could've swapped one of the dozens of bunched up 35s onto the 36 to plug the gap.

I walked along Upper Parliament Street around that time and there was a police car outside the Coach & Horses pub blocking the road that runs between it and the Tesco, which trucks use to drop off deliveries. There was a truck on Upper Parliament Street itself parked at the bus stop stand for the 87/88, so I assume it couldn't make a drop-off. It looks like these things combined caused traffic problems as buses had to navigate around them. A few of the real-time bus stops showed journeys as being cancelled.

The 11 has Solo SR spares on it while blue line 40/41/42 are all running with Enviro 200 MMCs off green line, and a Uni4 Omnidekka. Meanwhile green line has some Parliament Street E400s and another Uni4 Omnidekka covering for the MMCs on blue line.

605 and sister 606 seemingly have returned to usual full service following “engine issues”? which seemed to prevent them from carrying out full service work. Both only seemed to see use on school extras for a while

NCT seems to now have a new policy which involves reducing the use of their biogas buses wherever it is possible and using the Enviro400s as much as possible. This is seen on Sundays, where the Turquoise E400s (designated 78/79) cover the 77, the Red E400s (designated 43) cover both the 43 & 44 and the Orange E400s (designated 34) cover the 35/36 as much as possible, especially during uni holidays.

The reason is unclear, perhaps to extend the life of the Biogas buses, or to save money, with biogas apparently being expensive now.

Ah yes I did notice this recently. It’s quite a reversal as up until the last month or so, the Red 43 E400s got a rest on Sundays with the 43 and 44 (which interwork on Sundays only) getting silver spare biogas buses

As far as I'm aware, the only reason is because of the very high price of biogas at the moment making it unprofitable to run them in service everyday. This should stop when the prices come back down

The 48 is being converted to singe-deck. All single-decks will be electric by the time the order is complete.

My guess is that the 14 coming in the second half of 2024 most likely replaces all 12 of the Spare Solo SRs. The other 2 could be branded for Pink Line, to be used on the 29?

There's been quite a few weird allocations today, with Uni34 623 on 44s, Navy 48 639 on 49s, the 50 being operated by spare 925 and South Notts 643, and a quite a few more I can't be bothered to list.

From my understanding, they are waiting for Biogas prices to come down, as it is quite expensive at the moment. Most likely cutting costs to allow for all of their services to run, I cant see this stopping any time soon.

Lucky they're being replaced in the next couple of months! I really do hope they sell them on as 'young vehicles' at the earliest opportunity rather than keep them.
