Nottingham - Carlisle routes/splits

A bit late but....

Guests from Nottingham coming up on 29/12 am, returning from Carlisle 30/12 pm. 2 adults, 1 14 year old, no railcard (but could get one of course).
I've had a look at routes through Manchester and Leeds. 79£ each adult showing for the first, about 4 hours each way. 72£ showing for the second, about 5 hrs 20 each way.

For a start, for £79.40, you can get an Off-Peak Return valid at any time on the outward since it is a Sunday, and after 0930 on Monday. If going via Leeds and Appleby, you can reduce that to £72.20 for an Anytime Return.

A Family & Friends Railcard will reduce that to £52.40 and £47.65 respectively, so definitely worth buying one.
