Love the 9.44a.m. Sunday bus that terminates at the QMC according to the timetable.......
Also love the run time - 5 minutes from Hathern Green via Broadgate, Wollaton Road, Park Street & Cator Lane to get to Central College. No chance.....

Has Y3 bitten the dust too? Or is it more registration manoeuvres again. If this one goes, with the reduced milage on pretty much all of their commercial services, the fixed costs of running and marketing YourBus will be being spread across a shrinking network, and will make up an increasing share of the costs per passenger journey.

Took the new y59 from breadsall village to Derby. Crazy that the 59 and y59 are both timetabled within 4 minutes of each other on such a country route. This route was 2 hourly not so long ago. Both buses had 2 or 3 passengers, not sure if either are council subsidized as no notes on timetable, although yourbus website implies y59 is a contract service. Cannot see the two surviving long....
Neither service is subsidised. The 59 was until recently (run by Yourbus), but when N&D registered their service 59, Yourbus were given notice on their contact. They chose to replace it with this commercial Y59 instead.

I was waiting on Bath Street in Ilkeston for a 20minute late27 last Friday. The N&D 59 for Shipley View turned up - noone on board - a lady and 2 children boarded.
5 minutes later the Y59 turned up. It already had a fair few on and 7 more boarded - I must admit it was the busiest Y59 on the Shipley View section I have ever seen.
It does show there is some customer loyalty to Yourbus after them running it for a period. But how will this bus war pan out.....

Welcome to Y59
Our buses run on service Y59 every hour from Shipley View, Ilkeston and West Hallam to Derby city centre. It's handy to get to Ilkeston Hospital too.
This service is a contract which we run on behalf of Derbyshire County Council.
any ideas?....

Derbyshire Council are one of the few which produce timetables for all services in the county and make it clear where journeys are subsidised.

This makes it clear the Sunday 11 is subsidised.
I suspect that when Yourbus updated their website with the change from 59 to Y59 they forgot to delete this sentence.

Yourbus have today registered routes on VOSA that would suggest that they're planning on competiting with Arriva Derby on the Chaddesdon corridor.
On the well established 20 and 26 routes, which have a 15 minute frequency (and 30 mins Sundays). Hardly innovative is it? Last people to try this sort of thing were Camms in the 90s and it didn't end well for them

I see Yourbus continues to just copy/compete with other existing services. Shame they don't have the guts to try anything new themselves.

I assume they haven't found a buyer for the 7 x 62 Plate Citaros or the 5 x 03/53 dual door Citaros that have been for sale & therefore need work for them.

Surprised the 62 reg weren't leased.
On the contrary, it ended very well for Camms, they developed into quite a smart operation and Derby had no alternative but to buy them out. Part of the deal was that Camms identity was retained and a number of Derby vehicles were painted in Camms colours.
Arthur Camm did very nicely indeed out of the deal!
The latest move by Yourbus could be a shrewd move, it gets their toe in the door on Derby local routes and Arriva have just announced yet more frequency reductions on several Derby services. It's a small, isolated operation, could the same thing happen in Derby as has happened in Burton-on-Trent? Perhaps Yourbus are positioning themselves with an eye to the future!

Don't think their network changes and frequency cuts over the last year have gone down too well with Derby's residents.
Be interesting to see just how long it is before Yourbus chop the Y36 to concentrate solely on Derby....
Arriva carry a reasonable number of passengers in the daytime but Derby becomes a ghost town in the evenings. Most services tail off to a minimum after 6pm and Optare Solos suffice on most routes after that time.
The idiotic 'Sapphire' service on the 38 was launched last year with new double deckers which were overkill on a local route which passes through some of the less salubrious ares of Derby on a ten minute frequency. Throughout the day I often observe average loadings of around a dozen passengers. It's their 'flagship' service though and to reduce or downgrade it would make them look rather silly.
Service reductions have become an annual event in the past few years and having offloaded their Burton operations, I can't help wondering if they may consider doing the same with Derby should an opportunity present itself.

The 38 does very well in Derby. It passes through the spot too where it picks up many of its city centre passengers, not at bus station.
In the past few years they have changed routes a few times and reduced frequencies. Interestingly though alrhough both 20 and 26 have seen the frequency gradually decrease from 10 to 12 to 15 min, the routes have remained unchanged.
Personally i cant see the 20 working with 2 operators as not enough custom. 26 potentially, perhaps more so if tweaked around Oakwood to serve a wider area that routes 22 and 24 cover.
I would have thought sinfins, 38 or alvastons 1 1a would be more profitable corridors. But thinking about it the 38 has good image with sapphire and a good frequency. And Arriva have good frequency on the 1 and also skylink running on that corridor.
The introduction on the new services also builds on their nerwork in that corner of the city as thst have y5 on nottingham rd corridor plus evening 11.
It will be interesting to see what happens next. Will arriva put extra buses on, or just carry on.

From Monday 30th January 2017, Citylink 1 and W4 will be replaced by two new bus services.
A new, more direct Centrelink Park and Ride service (operated by Nottingham Community Transport on behalf of Nottingham City Council) will run between the Queen’s Drive Park & Ride Ecohub, Meadows Way and the Railway Station to the City Centre, terminating in Victoria Bus Station. This new service will no longer serve Fletcher Gate and the Lace Market but will instead access and depart the city to the west of the City Centre via Maid Marian Way. This service will be operated with 13 new ultra-modern low emission electric buses.
From Monday 30th January 2017, the Citylink 2 will be renamed the Ecolink and also be operated by electric buses. The route will change slightly. When returning to the City Centre it will turn left at Pennyfoot Street on to Bellargate. This service will be operated by Nottingham Community Transport on behalf of Nottingham City Council.

That confirms what was speculated here when the 49 was first registered. I wonder if not continuing to Beeston is a missed opportunity?
Seems the ideal candidate to serve the housing/industrial estate being built to the west of the Boots campus - especially once the Western side of the Eco corridor is built (so bus/EV lanes along Thane Road)?
It'll be a Boots workers service, but I'm unsure of more detail than that!
Arriva Derby do engineering work for other operators , including Trent Barton .
The fleet is also pretty good for Arriva, no Alx 400 Daf's or lowlander's.
Yourbus must have got more Government funding to train drivers, as Brian is back as Training Manager.

Amberline terminus moved from Hucknall Library to Market Place with effect from the 21st November. 3 minutes is added to the outbound journey time to Westville. Wonder if it is to do with town centre pedestrianisation and new inner by-pass?
