One of my friends needs to travel down for work, and ideally needs 1st class to get on the wifi and get some work done! They have a 16-25 railcard, and ideally need to arrive before 12, leaving anytime, can go quite late if it's cheap enough!

Can it beat the £39 super off peak EMT are offering? (which as an aside I swear I remembering paying £34 for that ticket in May?)

Sorry for the short notice and thanks in advance!

It wasn't clear whether your friend would be coming back or not.

Price-wise, the cheapest I have found is:

Nottingham 1045
Grantham arrive 1123/depart 1207
London Kings X 1324

With the railcard, that would be £7.65 standard class or £19.40 1st class. Those are Advance tickets which means that travel has to be on the trains specified when booking.

Returning, there are Kings X to Nottingham Advance tickets (all with changes at Grantham) for £18.75 standard class departing Kings X at 1819, 1906 and 1933.

Edit: there's also an outward standard Advance for Nottingham 1034 - Kings X 1228 for £18.75 again changing at Grantham, but if your friend is paying 2 x £18.75 they may just as well buy the super offpeak return and go direct to St Pancras.

Have you checked to see what APs are available? That's probably going to be the only way to get anything cheaper than the Super Off-Peak ticket especially if your friend wishes to go first class.

I've looked for some but not found any decent firsts. The Super off peak is cheaper via Grantham (by less than a £1 of memory serves me correctly) as I missed the last connecting Grantham service and excesses 55p! Will have another look when I'm home- cheers chaps!

Are any of the Nottingham to London EMT services operated by 4 or 5 coach Meridians or are they all 7 coach or HSTs? On the shorter Meridian sets one coach is half and half standard and first class, and you can get free WiFi throughout that coach, not just in the first class section.

Yes, virtually all the Meridians are 4s or 5s (coupled together on busy services). The 7-cars usually do the fast Sheffields.
