Does anyone know what livery these will be painted into im presuming it is the same as current 321's? or paint all in a new livery?

Also does anyone know if they are to be converted to 321/9's?

Define converted?

I fail to see how they can be converted into something they already are. Some people seem to think that because they are numbered differently, they are a complete difference of train.

There is No difference between a 321 and 322 apart from the TOPS numbering, which was done by NSE as part of the making the trains seperate for Stansted Express.

There is a difference at the moment from the original specification that the Class 322 first debut to the Scotrail specification that they currently have.

When they first got introduced onto the Stansted Express they had 2+2 seating and extra luggage space, when they went up north of the border to be used by Scotrail, they got fitted out with 3+2 high density seating.

Apart from that they are basically the same train as 321s and 320s although 320s are obviously 3 cars not 4 cars.

i meant officially, rather than new stock knowledge for crews etc. Im presuming in the modern world this will happen as they are a different class?

i was aware of the fact they are same. I just meant officially.

Whos talking about anything internally though?

Internals aside, mechanical and structural they are the same...

Based upon that, you could say ATWs 142s are different from Northerns 142s because they have different seats.

Unknown in all honesty but their current base blue at the moment is very similar to Northern blue so I would expect them to be done similar to the 323's with the swoosh.

Renumbering would be unlikely. This costs money that doesn't need to be spent. In addition, it separates them as "new" trains for Northern.

It depends what is the cheaper option - renumbering 322481-485 as 321904-321908 would cost money. However, is it easier to do this than re-issue Northern Drivers and Guards with new Driving and Train Working Licences to add Class 322 alongside Class 321?

hopefully they take into account training new drivers for duration of there stay and i would hope its cheaper to renumber them.

There is little benefit in simply renumbering the units, to fall back into the (end of the) Class 321/9 sequence
The units were originally numbered Class 322 due to the slightly different internal layout, which was of benefit on the Stansted Express service

I do agree that with the Class 322 now more similar to the Class 321/9 internally there is little or no benefit having a separate Class any more
However, as above, is there any benefit?
Not really, just leave them as is

Finally, the Class 322 is still showing as heavier than the Class 321
Therefore it is very unlikely renumbering will take place
Presumably some internal equipment is different

Any conversion from 321 to 322 could be done in a short length of time given the similarities between the two. For example the conversion from 142 to 144 is a few hours to get acquainted with the differences in the locations of certain pieces of equipment and layout of controls etc. No handling is required and below the solebar they are identical. If the 322 is identical to the 321 in all aspects of operation (as is the case with 150/1 and 150/2) and there are only very minor differences then it may be possible to issue Drivers and Guards with a conversion note outlining the differences as was done with the 158 centre cars. Reissue of licences is done at depot level and takes minutes.

in that case then, leave as they are :P
