First GWR in past times did a whole series of jarring full-carriage illustrated advertising on their Class 153 single units, mainly for various tourist organisations. I think it coincided with the purchase of a machine which could produce such vinyl wraps. Some can be seen here:

Wasn't there a Eurostar in Da Vinci Code livery, and one to advertise the Cannes film festival?

Surprised nobodys mentioned the Skyfall IC225 set!
There was a Sky livery too, and one to advertise a documentary filmed on the ECML.

On the western side, Pendolinos had a few liveries advertising films, maybe a Marvel one and a Superman one?

Northern had a few 155s, 156s and 158s with liveries advertising places that you could visit (ie West Yorkshire towns).
It currently has an RAF liveried 156, but not sure if this is advertising recruitment or commemorating those who chose to join the armed forces and subsequently died.

TPE had a Liverpool Capital of Culture liveried 185

ONE had a 156 advertising a shopping centre in East Anglia.

The Tyne & Wear Metro has had numerous advertising liveries including Metro Radio, Newcastle Brown Ale, and GNER

47627 was the one. Was applied in 1997, but the vinyls didn't last long and were quickly removed. 627 retained the unique all-over maroon livery for the rest of it's career; it was withdrawn in March 2000 and had been scrapped by the end of that summer (image copyright of Andy Willians, Martin Loader & Flickr's Wilbert B respectively).
Granted that Class 47 has been scrapped now, however, it's a shame that no Class 47 has had this livery revived in preservation.

Is it the most interesting livery? Not really, however, it's a good talking point for the general public, and helps break up the monotony of BR Green and Blue diesel liveries.

They had one for X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014), to promote the film at the time.

Scanned from a not-super-sharp slide, but this illustrates that some airline (sorry, can't remember which; Continental?) did advertise on a train.

Hmmm, not sure how to make the image visible rather than as an attachment...

I've stumbled across a better picture.

(What's the right way to make it visible in the message rather than in a separate tab?)

Virgin Pendolino 390029 (now 390129) had two promotional liveries in the past, one for Superman and one for a show called Monkey. All of the carriages were covered.

Not my cup tea but each to their own but did they have to vinyl the windows? Should be illegal punishable by deprivation of tea and coffee making facilities for the depot that did it ;)

387216 is still in this Christmas wrap as of today (03/02/2026) I saw it at Gatwick. Its gained some graffiti too.

I would have thought it would be removed by now, having Christmas stuff up in February is just giving easy ammo to the 'trains are always late' people/News sites

There was a livery on a Thameslink 319 for a nursery that commuters could drop their kids off to (I think it was near a station) and I've heard that the livery outlasted the nursery!

Are you thinking about the Connex crèche livery? I remember those as a childhood, the crèche was at Victoria station but I’ve not found any evidence of it online

My earliest memory of an advertising livery was that Yellow Pages C stock livery in 1998. There was also that United Airines Piccadilly Line train, which I remember thinking was an express Piccadilly Line train to Heathrow

Speaking of tube trains, there were 1938 stock in dinosaur livery which looked rather weird.

On more obscure examples, there was a 105 set in a "London Saver" promotional livery that looked catchy back then with its red and blue colours, a lot like rtc and sealink.

There was also a 104 (and 105) set in a special flowers livery to publicise the Scarborough branch as a school special service. Probably one of the earliest vinyl liveries ever!

And finally don't think anyone has mentioned the yellow Telecom 117, also very attractive.

Shame not many advertising liveries now, but that 387 looks really neat.
