Just a thought, but wouldn't it cost less to keep these units in service rather than pay to have the graffiti cleaned off them? Not sure how much either cost.

you are probably right but in the world of the privatised railway, it is not how much it would cost but who pays! As they are off lease, it now becomes the ROSCOs problem.....whilst the TOC has saved tens on millions in leasing costs per annum.....

I have found this today which is quite frankly astonishing! The new premium payment for 29 month caretaker franchise is as follows:

WOW!!!! An eyewatering premium back to the treasury of £417,838,000.....that is £14,408,207 a month in PREMIUM PAYMENT / PROFIT from passengers!!!!

Even the best NX managed was £8,333,333 (give or take a few quid)......

This begs the following questions........

GA outbid the next bidder by £60m....which is money that could have actually gone into improving the crap, decrepit state of the trains.....

How are they actually going to acheive a £6m increase on NX? Even the draconian cuts they have already imposed with the stock reduction etc. simply cannot increase revenue by that amount?

We appear to be in for some drastic cost cutting to acheive these figures!!!!

Doesn't surprise me one bit about Aldersbrook, when the 310's & 312's were stored in the sidings they had extensive graffiti by the time they came out. Have any 317's appeared at Clacton or Harwich for storage, as I thought this was the original plan?

None at Clacton and wasn't any at Harwich as far as I know.

You have to feel for em'. Maybe we'll have 3 weeks of smooth running all over the GA network after all this has blown over.

I personally think they should just do what the epping and ongar railway did. Close the whole thing for 5 years and redo the whole thing!!!!!

Not a day goes by when i dont see shenfield etc on NRE disruption, something has got to be done at some point, is anyone failing or is this just a chronic cycle of bad luck.

Franchise system doesn't seem to work, so the people who won franchise were the ones who said they would cut costs most... not provide the best service. Fills me with confidence for the other franchises....

No, the TOC have their Control, and THEY tell Net Rail what THEY are going to do.

The Anglia Control is fully integrated like Wessex. The Network Rail RCM supervises all staff on duty: NR and TOC. Under NXEA the integration went even further. The NR and NXEA Control Manager roles were combined. NR and NXEA shared the cost of the post and the manager had objectives set by both organisations. It was unique in the industry. Once NXEA left this arrangement ceased.

That may have been the one which was covered in graffitti. It was not in the sidings near Ilford this morning as we passed.

I did notice a 317 working the 8.10 Shenfield to Liverpool Street this morning.

Someone on Twitter said "where did you find the train that has formed the 08.13 from Brentwood to Liv St for the past 2 days... it's ancient!!!!".

As seen here, Audley End still has the old 'one' railways logo on its "Double Arrow on a pole" sign (well it did July 2011 when I was there anyway). Is it still there, do any other stations have this sign, and are there any plans for them to be replaced.

This morning wasn't good. Lots of congestion due to the early overhead wire problems.

What really didnt help either was a 20mph emergency speed restriction at Romford. It's been there the last two days. Creates a hell of a lot of congestion in the morning peak. It's a 90mph line with about 4 metres of 20mph. About a mile of braking for that plus most if the trains are 12 cars so you can see how the trains can stack up.

Again, it's the track, overheads etc. Not GA's fault. I do feel that GA are better at service recovery though it may not seem so to the commuter.

A lot of signs around Lancashire still have Network NorthWest signs (pre-privatisation), station signs just don't seem to be the priority anywhere.

It's nice to know the reason why we have been slowing down on the mainline into and out of London these past few days. Something else I've noticed is that NR has cleared most of the graffiti on the approaches to Liverpool Street and on that big wall at Goodmayes. Long may they stay clear.

I must admit. I do tend to let passengers know when we start crawling that it's due to an ESR. It can have such an impact on the services and create horrendous congestion during the peak times. Something as silly as that can cause chaos!

Will have to look out for the graffiti cleared walls. Glad to hear its gone.

Also out yesterday clearing the bushes & trees growing out of the brickwork Forest Gate to Maryland.
