Are you stupid? I have said twice now that by swearing at them makes you no better than them. Do you purposely ignore this to try and come across as the better person.

No one deserves to be on the end of someone swearing at them and especially with menace.

I hope by bolding, underlining and putting this in italics fully illustrates to you what I have said three times now.

No more stupid and pig ignorant than you are. I completely disagree with you and yes I think I would be in the right to swear at them and show my anger on hearing their racist remark. People need to make a stand against this kind of behavior.

Oh and what has this got to do with swearing at train crew?

Im not pig ignorant. In fact I would say compared to you Im the Queen of Sheba.

You have no right whatsoever in swearing at anyone and even more so with menace in your voice.

Yes, people do need to make a stand against this sort of behaviour but there are correct ways of going about it.

Your way is the wrong way.

And who are you to say that? Laughing at a racist joke deserves to be met with menace. It would have made those pathetic individuals think again.

Those who laugh at racist jokes don't understand anything other than menace.

Are you suggesting that laughing at a racist joke is not an act of menace?

And answer the question. In terms of aggressive behavior what has this got to do with train crew?

Are you attempting to defend them for laughing at that disgraceful remark? Do you think they were right to laugh? Would you have laughed with them? Frankly they would have deserved all they got.

If they can laugh at that remark they can cope with me swearing at them. Are you suggesting that they would have not deserved being sworn at?

Sitting down and analysing whether a group of random people should have laughed at an inappropriate joke is a pretty pointless exercise. The people probably laughed in the spur of the moment as a natural reaction to such an unexpected announcement. Does that make them racists that deserve to be verbally assaulted, people who in that split second thought 'hah hah, yes that voice from above is right, Gypsies are people who I resent and should be fearful of, well done to that man for saying it, hahaha...'?

I doubt many people even automatically think of Gypsies as a race of people. British law only recognises Romany Gypsies as a race, due to their ethnic origin, other Gypsies aren't recognised in law as being a separate race. To many people the announcer saying Gypsies would be no different from if the announcement had said thieves and Liverpudlians.

Would I have laughed? No idea, maybe I would in that moment in surprise at what a random thing had been said in that situation, like most people in that video probably did! Would I have laughed because I, what, am a racist, who'd presumably be laughing because I agreed with the sentiment of the message? No...

Yes I would have reported what I'd said to the Police. I think you and I know what the outcome would have been.

It probably wouldn't have gone anywhere, but you'd have been issued 'words of advise' no doubt. If it was just a case of this announcement being made, I wouldn't be surprised if the person who made it just received strong words of advice from management, but as we've seen there are extenuating circumstances in this case.

To answer your first couple of points, as I have mentioned before on here my missus is Asian and I have had racist and derogatory comments made to both me and her from both sides of the race/colour and religious sides, even whilst walking down the street and doing nothing wrong to anyone.

I used to get angry with it and once or twice may have used my fists and feet and head but soon realised that menace does not work with these people. It does not make them think again. All it does is drag you down to their level - which is what I have repeatedly told you already.

Thats who I am to say that.

i apologise, I thought this was stilla continuation of what was announced on a train, I couldnt be bothered to read back a couple of pages because I feared it would still be full of the crap that you have been spouting already. I would probably be right too.

In all honesty I had no idea that your better half was Asian! And guess what, my wife is Asian and I'm a white bloke!

Not only that but we have three mixed race children. My wife is from Nelson in East Lancs and sadly we know all about the BNP and racist remarks / jokes?

To be honest this could all be probably be sorted out with a PM and a pre-arranged pint!

For what it's worth if I ever saw a member of train crew being abused I would step in. As a commuter yes I moan but I would never abuse rail staff as they are only doing their job. However I will never tolerate racist remarks and will fight fire with fire!

I've defended my wife on a couple of occasions and the cowards have run off. But listen we might have different solutions but we are both 'fighting' for the common cause!

Stand up to these bullies and cowards and they will back off. Walk on meekly and they will think that they have won!

Oh I never walk on, never, I face up to them and just talk normally to them about their views and why they think the way they do. This annoys them far more than shouting at them and confuses the vast majority of them, Its even funnier when me lass does it too, especially to those from her religion who think that being with a white gadge is a terrible sin, i cant help but fall over laughing at them not knowing what to say, especially because its a woman doing it.

Good! My wife is a member of CAMRA. Bali and I never cease to be amused by the number of people who are shocked to see her enjoying herself at the GBBF!

I haven't really been following this thread but my only thoughts on the subject are, seeing how the conversation has gone, is that I can't choose to be Black (as a White British person) but I could choose to adopt the lifestyle of a Gypsy/Traveller. I couldn't choose to be a Romany Gypsy or Irish Traveller*, which are recognised as a race under UK law due to their ethnic origin. But then, the Guard didn't say anything about Romany Gypsies or Irish Travellers.

*Personally I wouldn't call Irish Travellers, White Irish or White British people a race at all. They're all just White European. I'd include White Americans, Canadians and Australasians of European descent as White European.

To quote the page that Troll surprisingly used in defence of his argument:

As above the general terms 'Gypsy' and 'Traveller' covers a lot of people, many of whom the law doesn't recognise as a race. Both terms are used interchangeably in many peoples heads. If you say Black, there's no ambiguity that you're talking about a race of people. The two just aren't the same, so the 'what if the Guard had said 'beware pickpockets and blacks'' argument sounds ridiculous to me...

As harsh as it sounds, if a group of black people moved in near the coach company I work for, I wouldn't do anything different.

If travellers moved nearby, I would start filling the coaches up on a morning rather than on an evening (and at a local fuel station rather than from an onsite tank).

Does that make me a racialist?

No it makes you a realist rather than somebody who sees the world through rose coloured glasses.

Of course! Making sweeping generalisations is clearly just being realistic, and not lazy, discriminatory and damaging to our society.

Get real.

If there is evidence that a group of people are breaking the law and being disruptive then that's fine. Assuming that simply because they're gypsies is not. That's the difference. However, for those of us who want to keep living like it's 1950 that's obviously too much effort, because it's much easier to say all gypsies are like that (when the evidence points to that not being the case)...

This thread is going round in circles now and the same statements that have been made numerous times are being repeated.

There appears to be nothing new to be said.
