Hello all,

My Mum is planning a trip to Haslemere this Saturday, travelling from Norwood Junction. She was planning to just get a ticket between the two stations, however she has a 60+ Oystercard entitling her to travel free within the London zones.

I've found it would be cheaper for her to get a return ticket from Surbiton (last stop in Z6) to Haslemere. I am not sure how the 60+ card works, but by doing that, would she have to break her journey there to avoid incomplete journeys on her Oyster?

Thanks in advance :)

As your mother has a 60+ Oyster which works in the same way as a travelcard, she can go to the ticket office at Norwood Junction and ask for a Boundary Zone 6 to Haslemere return.

A CDR is £14.40, SDR £14.60. A senior railcard will give your mother a third off those tickets if she has that in addition to her 60+ Oyster.

I would go for a Boundary Zone 6 - Haslemere CDR.

There's no need to touch out at Surbiton.

You can save a little with a Redhill - Haslemere CDR, which is valid Redhill - Clapham Junction - Haslemere, and hence from the boundary, but not perhaps worth the bother.

Surely there's no entry charge on that, if it offers free travel?

The only way there'd be an entry charge is if touching in at a station that has Oyster but is outside the free travel area and/or at a time not permitted by the pass.

Oyster 60+ has the same privileges as a Freedom Pass. The only difference is that you can't use it on non TfL bus routes outside the capital unlike the Pension age pass.

The pass is subsidised by the GLA rather than the London Boroughs as it enables Londoners over 60 who haven't reached pension age to continue to travel free.

Thanks for all your help! I'll inform her to get a BZ6-Haslemere CDR. She doesn't have a railcard she doesn't travel enough out of zones.

Ah, okay. I wasn't sure how the concession worked, I'm getting waaaaaay too used to using PaYG.
