Norwich - London (via Peterborough?)

Hi all,

I'm heading back home to Bristol on Saturday and need to go from Great Yarmouth to London. I was looking at the routeing guide and I'm unsure of whether I can avoid the rail-replacement bus on the Great Eastern Mainline and take the train from Norwich - Peterborough - KGX

If it makes it any more complicated I asked the guy in the Stratford Intl ticket office for a "London Terminals" ticket but my destination is Stratford Intl SE. I don't really know what restrictions that adds or removes.

Permitted Routes for Great Yarmouth are on mapped by EA and LONDON; LONDON gives CN+WA.

Peterborough is not on a mapped route (nor is it the shortest or by a direct train), so not permitted, but you can travel Norwich-Ely-Cambridge-London (via either Stansted or Stevenage).

The fact that your ticket is to Stratford Intl does not make a difference in this case, but it does mean that you were overcharged by not being sold the ticket requested (probably only by a pound or so, depending on the ticket held).

I have no idea on what routes you are allowed to take (sorry!) but I would think a quicker journey might be to change at Ely if on EMT, or Cambridge if on a GA service and head down to KGX from there instead of carrying on through to Peterbrough (ie use the GN instead of the ECML)?

I did this a few years ago when the GEML was closed. It was only about 12 mintues slower and I arrived at King's Cross instead of Liverpool Street which was better for my final destination in London.
