Whilst travelling to Stafford the other week, it got me thinking about Norton Bridge station as was.

I know the station is officially closed and the replacement bus service has ended I think but what actually remains of the site currently? Is the inaccessible central island platform still standing? I last visited a few years ago and wondered if anything had changed since then.

Strangely enough yesterday, I found a train although cancelled, which was shown as starting from Norton Bridge - see screenshot. What train would this have been please? How come Norton Bridge is still searchable on real time trains? Thanks.

How come Norton Bridge is still searchable on real time trains?

You can search for plenty of locations that are no longer/were never stations. E.g Elland, Neville Hill depot and loads more

Possibly some sort of track machine that had been working in that area ?

The island is still there sort of. That train will have been coming out of a possession, its still a timing point so its likely the nearest place that could be used.

The platform is extant, situated between the Up Fast and Norton Bridge East Chord.

It is totally overgrown though. The only hints that it was once a station are the couple of Regional Railways blue lamp posts, as seen in this picture from rather better days (2009).

Norton Bridge remains searchable as it is a mandatory timing point for all trains using the Fast Lines and the East Chord.

The train you found was likely an engineer's train, e.g. a tamping machine. These are timed to run to/from the possession they relate to, hence showing as running to/from apparently random locations or junctions.
