Seen here for shunting in the depot, but there is nothing physically to stop it running like that.

Looks weird! I suppose Pacers must be inter-connectable in the same way that Sprinters are then!

Crikey, some people must be using awful resolutions if that image is too big.

Well I never! lol something I've never seen. I guess its like a 153+158...never seen that tho
Was on a 153 coupled to 158 between Leeds-Carlisle via the Settle Line. Travelled on the 158 northbound and the 153 southbound. Odd combo as the 153 is 75mph rated whilst its 158 90mph rated. Needless to say, the 153's engine was truly pushed to the limit, whilst its coupled partner 158 was just having a canter!
As for the 142-144 tie up, they are wired the same through the BSI Couplers, so the centre wiring harnesses and jacks are compatible too.

I think poshbakerloo meant a single 158 carriage coupled to a single 153 creating a hybrid unit.

158s coupled to 153s is an everyday occurrence :)

Ahh, ok, right. Unless mistaken, the 153 is a single car conversion of the 155 Sprinter? The 153 is BSI Coupler fitted either end so would not be able to tie up to half of any Sprinter variant, just another 153 to make a two car set as the normal Sprinter centre sections are connected by a tie beam and jack plug connectors and compressed air pipe connections.

Nope, this is a 153 running in passenger service with a single car from a 156. Some have run like this for over a year at a time.

Certainly not done regularly, but it was done with a unit as recently as last year.

Can't find any pictures of a 153 and 158, but here's a 153 and 156 hybrid set, formed of 153351 and 156 DMS 57489:

Yes, I stand corrected by the photo, the 155/156/158 Sprinters are BSI semi auto coupled in the centre, unlike the Pacer units. The 153 still however needs to be connected via electrical jacks to the 156 rather than through the couplers. ;) Thanks for the photo of that combo.

Ohhhh bet the drivers loved that, large 156 end, small 153 end

Not forgetting though most of FGWs Class 158 fleet are running as 3 Car Hyrbryd units...with a 2 car 158 bolsterd by one of the other 158 cars...so in theory your creating less 158s, but more capaicty...

Hence in my not so perfect picture of 158953, formed of 158750, with one of the DMS of 52745 / 158745

What ever next a 142 and a 158?
<D<D
I know this is a joke, but are Pacers and Sprinters interoperable, as in 1-car of each, with the corridors working?

Also - when 158s are split, one half needs an adapter plate to couple safely to another unit, be it a 158 or any other Sprinter.
