I share your pain (did EXACTLY the same - ie trying to go too fast in reactions test - as you). My six months ran out a fortnight ago. I need to put it right. Hopefully I'll get called to a manager interview for the Leeds position, the one I had in Sheffield last year went quite brilliantly.

Presume you've passed the visual comparison and had the email confirming?

Did it last year, it's valid 12 months so didn't have to do it this time round. Shame they don't take the same view with regard to the parts of the assessment that have already been passed to their satisfaction...

The best thing to do is not put your life on hold until you get a Drivers job, took me 3 years to get into the (Depot) Drivers grade since I came up with the idea that this is for me, I had to take other roles on the railway first, it can make the wait much less painless if at all as most rail jobs have their pros and cons compared to Driving

I hope you mean more painless or less painful else you'll put off some candidates!

Same here. Hopefully they'll recruit for Manchester in the near future instead...

I applied for Manchester in May.
Passed the initial online test but got told that recruitment was on hold due to changes in requirements and I would be considered for any positions that come available later in the year. I've heard nothing since.

I am due for assessment next week, this follows an application earlier in the year and successfully getting through interview, but then being unable to sit the assessment as my 6 months had not passed from a previous assessment for the role with DBS. When I do sit the assessment next week, it will be 6 months and 1 day since my previous effort. Fingers crossed.

Good luck Daniel!

Which depot is this for?

Cheers Ian

I'm not 100% sure to be honest. I applied for the Manchester vacancy back at the start of the year and was put in hold, I was then invited to interview, but couldn't make it as I was on holiday, thinking that was that. They then got in touch with me shortly after and offered me an interview at Victoria, which I was progressed from. It then transpired due to my previous assessment I had to wait the 6 months, but they advised that they would be in touch if an assessment came up within the 6 months my interview was valid for. So, I've now been invited for assessment next week. I know there's at least one person on here on hold, so if there's even a job, who knows?

One thing I did want to ask is that the assessment is to be done with OPC and I wondered if anyone had taken the assessment with them and was it the SCAAT or GBT used? Their website seems to indicate that they favour the SCAAT, my previous assessment was at DBS.

The assessment is due to take place at the Queens hotel in Leeds, it looks to be next to the station, so should be easy enough on the train.

It's great that they have stuck by their word and contacted you with an assessment date, you must have impressed them Daniel :)

I'm not sure whether the assessment will change because your sitting it with the OPC, I would have thought the TOC would dictate what tests they want their applicants to sit, in which case it'll be GBT.

I hope you get something out of this, like me you have been on a long journey with more downs than ups, be nice to see some success.

Very kind words cheers mate. What will be will be I suppose, I'm worried about having to sit the mechanical bit again, the reactions is an unknown and reading through the interview threads on here I just really hope my examples are strong enough, if of course I get that far.

Use your experience of your previous assessment to your advantage, you know what to expect this time, remain calm and I'm sure you'll do well. As regards the interview, you're right that just comes down to your previous experiences and how suited they are, so good luck with that.
I'll await a positive outcome for you in this thread.

Just got mine from northern as well.
Does anyone know what had changed, here is the letter.

Dear chris

With reference to you recent application, we regret to advise that following a change to our train crew requirements this vacancy has now been withdrawn.

*

We understand that this is disappointing, but would like to thank you for your application and your interest in the role.

*
Thank you for completing the on line test. As you have reached the required benchmark your results will remain valid for 12 months from the original date of taking it.

If you have not already done so, we encourage you to sign up for a vacancy alert via our careers website which will ensure that you are notified by email of any future vacancies that may be of interest to you.

Kind regards

The Recruitment Team got mine from northern as well.

Does anybody happen to have a contact number for Northern HR? I have emailed and left a message with the lady who had previously replied to my emails, however it may be the case that she is away on holiday.

I'm still awaiting the results on my assessment and am looking at booking a last minute holiday so could really do with knowing how I've got on.

Thanks

Lifesaver. I've just managed to get through and I'm delighted to say I passed, can't quite believe it and I'm not 100% sure of what happens next, but I've got through and it's with great thanks to this site and many great contributors on here, thanks again.

Great news. I know that circumstances have conspired against you in the past so well done, and here's hoping you get the nod.

I always thought you were told whether you passed or failed on the day of the assessment. Not sure why they kept you in the dark Daniel but well done all the same and hopefully welcome to the team very shortly!
