I also applied for the leeds vacancy, I got through 59 questions but think I got 1 wrong.

Is this visual comparison done before the applications are looked at or does a pass of this test mean we will get through to the assessment centre?

Passing the Visual Comparison Test puts your application in the "read" pile at HR. Pass that and it's the 'managers' interview' first before the assessment centre.

Hi everyone, visual comparison test done for the Northern Leeds depot vacancy. Now sitting tight for the pass or fail e-mail. I didn't note how many I did but is there anyway of finding that out or do Northern tell me ?

I had the interview on 27th June and my application is now saying 'Talent Pool'

Just had an email from nothern saying;

"You have met the required standard on the visual comarison test and your application has been forwarded to the next stage of the recruitment process.

Once shortlisting has taken place we will contact youu again within 4-6 weeks to advise whether you have been succesful or not."

Has anyone else heard anything yet?

I have received the same email this morning.

I believe I got 43 correct and 0 wrong.

It is usually a couple for the bigger depots like leeds then a few stragglers for Sheffield, Hull etc

Just had the assessment day; fail. Got a borderline pass on the reaction test, Northern don't take borderline passes, so effectively a fail. Passed everything else with a proper pass but didnt get the interview as they send you home as soon as you get a fail

Sorry to hear that As you've technically passed all the tests does this count as one of your 2 "chances"?

I'm assuming it doesnt; as I understand it, the rule is you cant fail twice rather than take twice. In any case that rule is expiring in October (I think?)

Ages. Applied March; manager interview in a few weeks, then got offered assessment day in May but was on holiday so couldnt attend; to be fair they were very good at offering me another one (June) but that day was cancelled by DBS for some reason; they then offered me another in August but that was brought forward to last week. Northern told me they have great difficulty getting assessment days out of DBS; and DBS cover the entire industry for the North and Midlands, the only other place you can get an assessment is Watford

Absolutely gutting!

DBS is DB Shenker, the German owned freight operator that took over from EWS which was formed from Mainline Freight, Loadhaul and Transrail Freight. Remember those!

I share your pain (did EXACTLY the same - ie trying to go too fast in reactions test - as you). My six months ran out a fortnight ago. I need to put it right. Hopefully I'll get called to a manager interview for the Leeds position, the one I had in Sheffield last year went quite brilliantly.

The best thing to do is not put your life on hold until you get a Drivers job, took me 3 years to get into the (Depot) Drivers grade since I came up with the idea that this is for me, I had to take other roles on the railway first, it can make the wait more painless if at all as most rail jobs have their pros and cons compared to Driving
