Brown low, Eduardo, mandub,wall88 how did your interviews go guys?

Hi guys

Had my interview this week also.

Over an hour Seemed to go in the blink of an eye.

Quite a relaxed and pleasant interview really. I would even go as far as saying; that it was actually rather enjoyable.

Good to meet a driver manager and discuss the role in more detail.

Haven't got any idea how I did, but I did answer everything they asked, as best as I could.

Whatever the outcome for me, I can only take the positives from it. If I haven't been successful then I'll use the experience as a learning curve for next time.

Fingers crossed we hear within the early part of next week.

When you click into it it says closing date 20 March 2013.

Yep, seems about right for Northern. They know that those who really want to work for them will check every day, their vacancies are seldom advertised for more than a few days.

Hello all,

Had an email from Northern today telling me that due to a change in train crew requirements they will shortly be advertising for Leeds again and that my application will still be considered and that I will be contacted within 4 weeks to tell me whether I have been shortlisted for interview.....

Got my fingers crossed!

Good luck everyone.

Can somebody confirm if you have to wait six months before applying for a Northern vacancy again? I think I am getting them mixed up with First, but they may have the same policy?

Evening all.

Where Northern state in their Job Details '75% off travel on other TOCs' services', what is the 75% off of? Is it the standard 'turn up and go' fare, or would you still get 75% off the cheapest Super Advance Return?

Also, is there a limit on the number of journeys, or do you get a set number of days to travel?

Regards

75% off Anytime Standard Class Fares only.

Can work out good on some TOCs like TPE where you notice a good saving. Pointless on services like Virgin Trains Manchester to London (unless you really need a last minute trip AND flexibility)

No limit to number of journeys.

Many conductors / train managers will allow you travel for free however, if you show them your staff card, and ask before boarding the train as a courtesy.

The Darlington one is a possibility for me, but I live in York. I know they say within an hour of your workplace as a rule, but does that mean by car only?

I have a car, but it's just over an hour to Darlo (1hr 10mins according to Google). However I'd get the train from York if they were running (10 min drive, 20 min train) or if the trains aren't running the roads would probably be so quiet it would take less than an hour. Would I be considered or should I wait for another role?

If it is for a trainee driver role as previously quoted numnerous times you realy need to be within 45 minutes from your depot travelling by your own means as public transport cannot be relied upon with a lot of turns.

We also get totally free travel on Grand Central trains, so London KX for free, admittedly it's more convenient for those working on the East than the West but frees free :D

Thanks evo. Unlike some, who allow you to relocate, Northern appear to be strict on the living 1 hour from work rule.

Is it just First Group TOCs that allow you the option to relocate during the app process?

Out of interest (and to save an interminably long wait for a response from Northern HR - my last question to them simply didn't get answered full stop), does anyone know whether the 'six months' you must wait before being able to reapply with Northern following an unsuccessful application is from the date of application, or the date of rejection?

Thanks in advance.

Hi guys,

Just had an e-mail back from HR.

Says the following:

Thank you for attending your recent interview.

We are pleased to inform you that you met the required criteria at this stage and that we are currently looking to organise driver assessments in the near future. We will contact you again once the dates have been confirmed.

Please be aware that this e mail does in no way constitute an offer of employment.

In the meantime we thank you for your patience and continued interest in a career with Northern.

Kind regards

The Recruitment Team

Passed the Interview! You beauty... :D:D

On to the next stage. I think from the original job description the course is looking to commence around May time so the assessments must be coming up pretty soon.

Good luck to anyone else waiting to hear. ;)

Cheers. Good to get through another essential part of the process.

Like I mentioned in an earlier post, I actually rather enjoyed the interview.

Probably more than I'll enjoy doing the assessments in a few weeks.

Maybe see you there Wall88. :D

All the best.

Well done guys.

Hope to join you in the near future (I won't be giving up, anyway! )

Slight fly in the ointment, Leeds position closes at midnight and the website is down.

Don't worry about that, just email HR and they'll be fine if its a day or so late if you explain.

I was more thinking that the vacancy would disappear off the site!

No worries, it's back online now. 1 hour 30 minutes, race against the clock!

I'm surprised to have received a response advising they are taking a phased approach to the shortlisting and will be in touch again within 4 weeks. Obviously from the responses on this thread and people passing interviews, I'd presumed that it was done and dusted. That's still my thoughts, but I'm surprised to have received a delay email rather than rejection. I suspect that they are currently seeing the preferred candidates and will go back and look again if needs be.
