Northern Visual Comparison Test

I have being asked to complete a visual comparison test for the driver role at leeds. Is this what I think it is and a case of matching shapes or is there something more complicated involved?

I presume this is one of the assessments that has to be carried out as a shortlisting exercise ? It would be interesting to find out how many applicants have been listed for this latest batch of vacancies after seeing the amount that were tendered for FTPE

I've just done this for the Leeds job!
I had no idea what to expect but I think I did ok.

It's basically 4 rows of two sets of numbers, for example:

978-2569. 978-2569
969-2441. 969-2441
626-8686. 626-8668
219-5632. 219-5632

You have to scan the pairs and click on the row which is different, so in the above example row 3 has different numbers (8686 versus 8668).

Some of them take a bit of spotting, I lost quite a bit of time on some of them.
Some of them are really obvious.

Honestly can't remember but it was probably only about 5 minutes or so.

5 mins and aim for about 50 correct answers and no errors and you'll be good.

Just done the test. I am not sure about this one, I seemed to get stuck on a few but flew through the others. I was also so involved in answering the questions I didn't notice how many I had completed. Anyway, good luck to you all.

Hi all!

I also did this test for the Leeds job last week. I had no idea what to expect, but after a quick google all became clear!

In the end I think I did quite well. But who knows! I was more stressed out with my laptop than the actual test!

Excellent, I was very careful to make absolutely sure I didn't get any wrong (figured that would be more important than number right) and reckon I managed about 80-90...

Is it? It's only one every 3-4 seconds, there were a few which probably took me 6-8 seconds, some which were obvious after less than a second (far fewer, mind!).

If that's good, I'm a very happy man so far. Watch me have got half of them wrong now...:roll:

Im not sure of the actual percentage needed to be correct, but if you've done 80-90 with only a couple of incorrect answers then you've sailed through. I hit 48 with (i'm pretty certain) 100% accuracy and I passed

I answered 54 I think. The laptop hung on a white screen for 15 seconds halfway though which didn't help. I'm confident I got them all right. Means nothing if my application form is rejected though I suppose.

Yes, that's true - Pass this test just so they read your application form!

Slipperyjack i am also in the same sittuation as you about this visual comparison test. I have been asking people what sort of test it is. One lad came back to be and said its a set of numbers that we have to match and shade in the numbers that do not match. I have to do mine before this thursday. good luck anyway. let me know how you get on.

Hi Paul. I haven't actually applied for any of the jobs this time as I'm in a bit of a strange position at work atm that precludes me from seeking other employment (too much to explain) but I wish you good luck on your attempt.

Thanks shaky, i took the test on tuesday evening, i was a bit slow but i did manage to get all right in 5 mins but don't know how many i did as i didnt count them.

It was originally just for drivers, however the same category of assessment applies for Conductors (ie establishing ability to concentrate on a repetitive task over time) and has been added to that recruitment process too, in some ways helps to whittle down the (utterly huge) number of applicants.

I've just taken the test for a conductor role. I instantly received a message to say that I had reached the benchmark for the test. I got through 51 questions.

I'm just hoping that I get to the next stage now.

I've just also completed this for a conductor vacancy. Also got an email immediately saying I had reached the benchmark (I got 78, and I believe I got them all right).

Good luck anyone currently applying - another 6 weeks wait now to find out if i'm at the next stage *crosses fingers*.
