Grant shapps has sadly stated today he would like to see the back off the Pacers. On gov.uk website
However what are your opinions on the following interesting to hear.
1. Had northern remained in the franchise would the Pacers working the sets and diagrams we have now on northern rail would have remained the same to may 2020 timetable change Particularly 142 sets due to their dispensation. And went on a little longer as well. Then they originally said
2. Due to change to olr run and grant shapps statement see above will this mean that the Pacers will go earlier and quickly now due to olr involvement in this.

Or 3. Nothing whatsoever will change about rolling stock replacement, OLR do not have a magic wand.

It’s Grant Shapps not Sharples
No he isn’t. He is the grandson of Ena Sharples off Coronation Street, whom older readers will remember. Grant regularly goes in the Rovers Return sipping port and lemon, wearing a hairnet.
‘Eeh have you heard about that Ken Barlow? He’s become a train driver ‘
‘So what’s wrong with that?’
‘He drives a Pacer!’
‘Never!’

Edit: great minds think alike Paul!

If Stanley Unwin posted to forums!

Grant Shapps would hardly have been failed by a Pacer given that he probably hasn't travelled on one, unless it was for some form of political agrandisement.
I suspect what he is saying is 'don't blame me you still have these, I am as ruined off with your griping as you are from still having to endure them, but look I am telling my underlings to do what they can to get rid of them'.
What his underlings are supposed to do is not his problem just so long as all those lovely voters think he is on their side.

Patrick McLoughlin (Sec of State for Transport at the time) decided to get rid of Pacers when the Northern franchise was rebid in 2015.
So Northern have had plans since then to get rid of them, targeted for the end of 2019 (latest), to avoid having to upgrade them to meet disability regs.
They overran somewhat, so some are still in service, but the Pacers will disappear this year whoever is running the franchise.
OLR has "100 days" to put their improvement plan for Northern together.
(Some of Northern's redundant Pacers have gone (temporarily) to Transport for Wales).
