Potentially looks like another Northern 170 heading off for Barton and Crewe this week:

Potentially linked to this as well:

Does anyone know which unit it is that's going over? I know 170458 has not been in service for a few days now.

Dave

Couple of questions if I may.

Is 156478 staying at Heaton or moving to NH as I thought I'd seen elsewhere?
Are there any other units moving to NH to cover the 3 units (now 2x3) 150's 150007/8, or is it deemed that NH has enough as it stands -if the two ex-TfW 769's arrive to cover the existing 769's which may mean fewer 150/156's covering the non-availability of the existing 769's?

Thanks in advance.
156478 is a Heaton unit and will stay that way. There's no intention to move anything else to NH to make up the losses.

170472 is supposed to be going to Barton but it's had an argument with a tree during the weekend so it's in need of a few plasters.

Thanks for clarifying. I saw 458 went into passenger service today so I thought it can't be that then.

And has subsequently failed before working the 1148 Leeds to Sheffield

Old heaps now despite what many have done to the interiors. Isn't there a thread for 150 replacements? I can't find it right now, however I'm sure one exists.

150008 also in one of the middle roads at Sheffield right now.
150008 is working 2N07 0816 Sheffield to Leeds this morning.

Anyone know the date of its first service, please?

Many thanks

Its first service was on Monday 1748 Leeds to Sheffield and back, then 2048 Leeds to Sheffield, Tuesday was stabled in Sheffield all day with a fault, then yesterday it was on Penistone Line

Former Submarine, class 156478 finally made its debut with Northern yesterday. Some 5 months since it arrived at Heaton depot from Brodies. It went for a runout to Whitby from Newcastle. Apparently mot seen service for 3 years. Hence the long time preparation period.

Looking at a recent video, 156478 has had the full Northern make over inside and out.
It's part and part really. Fainsa ironing board seats are now in Northern moquette. The interior is painted in the Northern colours, whilst it retains it's at seat plug sockets. Other than that, it's now very non-Scottish.

Is this the route via Rotherham?

The Sheffield / Barnsley / Leeds trains are a massive improvement. I think they are Class 195 or something, but I am by no means an expert.

The Class 150 trains always seem to be on the Sheffield / Barnsley / Huddersfield route, and those are dreadful. The tired (and cramped) seating makes for an unpleasant journey. It's a shame because the Penistone Line itself is a lovely. Does anyone know if there are plan to improve those in some way?

Yes, that's the route via Rotherham (Real Time Trains has the details of today's run with 150271): https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:W49318/2025-01-06/detailed.

Unless newer trains can be cascaded in from elsewhere (though I can't see from where - there's a shortage of DMUs nationally), improvements may not be forthcoming until Northern gets deliveries of it's next generation of trains - see the Northern Trains - Tender issued for new fleet thread. Hopefullly someone else will be able to provide you with a more optimistic response.

No date for 150218 yet but it's getting "close". 156420, no date yet (half is in Brodies, half at HT). 156443 is due out first week of Feb, 475 beginning of April.
170472 - no precise release date yet as it requires roof repairs after losing an argument with a tree. It's at NL.

Why only half of 420 gone for repair. Is NL doing the roof repairs or is it going to a major works.

I think that the improvement on the Sheffield - Huddersfield route was to create additional 3-car 150s to try to alleviate the overcrowding, particularly from the Meadowhall end.
