@507021 The 156s coming south have been confirmed as 447,449,465,485 & 496.
Do we have any dates for the remaining scotrail units for northern.
Incidentally there was a comment on another thread from someone riding on a scotrail 158 which he thought had cramped seating so must be one of those due for northern. So sad that perception of Northerns cramped seating travels so far. Are northerners thought to have short or no legs.

As long as it doesn't end up on something like a S&C run, the lack of a toilet is an inconvenience rather than a disaster. With CETs coming we may as well get used to units without (working) toilets!
I rode on two of the refurbished 150s yesterday, and both had a sewage smell in the car with the toilet.

On the other hand, I think the ergonomics of this toilet compartment are much better than some earlier designs of accessible toilet. In particular, the large "Lock" switch and the "Door Locked" indicator are unambiguous. No risk of embarrassing incidents resulting from user confusion over the meaning of an array of buttons!

Except going by other trains with the same design, the lock switch is designed to prevent you locking the toilet with nobody inside, so it won’t actually lock unless you only move it when the door has fully closed. Has caused me to walk in on people thinking the door has locked.

I hear 156447, 449, 465, 485 and 496 are expected from ScotRail in January. This will most likely see the end of the loco hauled trains in Cumbria. It may go back to 37's anyway (for RHTT cover).

If you can be bothered to look at the indications, unlike a woman who tried to open the door when it was locked and then didn't lock it when she went in only to have it opened on her.

But you haven't answered my question, why would Northern's 319s be replaced with 323s if the 769 project doesn't work?
I'm talking about the present, not the future. With dynamic testing of the 769 only starting next week, they won't see passenger service by December and that's when the 323's go off-lease so considering the predicament Porterbrook put Northern in with delays to the project, I highly doubt they'd leave Northern hanging and let them keep the 323's until other rolling stock becomes available.

Northern have received additional 319s (on top of the 32 units they've already leased) to cover for the lack of 769s, and the four car 331s are scheduled to enter service in December, so I can't see why Northern would need to retain the 323s.

Wouldn’t make a difference to us as we certainly get our fair share of 158/9s without a functioning toilet!

I personally don’t mind the 158/9s but they’re not ideal for longer distance runs with only small luggage racks and one toilet onboard - me and quite a few guards I know already dread seeing one on the line for that reason!

The reason the 158/9s have (a) fewer toilets, and (b) smaller luggage racks is that WYPTE had wanted to order a further 10 155s, but as the production line for those units had closed 158s were all that was available. They were therefore specified as close to the original 155 specifications as possible.

Will the Class 144's be cascaded to ATW/KAW temporarily to provide cover for their 150/158 PRM mods and provide additional capacity?

Nothing has been mentioned in KeolisAmey Wales' fleet plans about any 144s.

I understand that, hence why we hate it when they turn up! They’re perfect for metro service like they were designed for, not for long distance services with lots of suitcases etc.

I wouldn't say they were perfect for metro services, due to the end doors. They work well on Calder Valley fasts and Leeds to Nottingham, but agree they lack the space for all the rucksacks on the S&C.

The 323's seem to be making more of an appearance now.

I was on 323232 that was working today's 16:28 LIV-CRE working. They can certainly get moving a lot quicker pulling out of the station that any of the 319's.
