Also some units are having major overhaul at various depots. E.g. 333 009 is nearing return to service after a long absenc at Siemens Neville hill and 142 059 I believe is the current unit on the 142 program at Holbeck.

It's 142052 according to a previous posting.

Sorry meant 052.
Strange doing major work on trains destined for scrap next year.

The problem is, if you don't do the work you lose the unit now. C4, C6 exams are like a sort of MOT for rail vehicles (oversimplification I know, but the best analogy I have:oops:).

Sorry it was a typo 155346 is in Scotland (damn fat fingers) 345 is still pounding the rails round Yorkshire. 346 has a planned return date of 11/03/17 not sure if that's from Scotland or actually into service
The 142 at Holbeck is 052

Why was 333 009 out of service for so long ?

I remember people saying it had been boarded up etc .

Why did they do that and what was it for ?

I believe that it was for parts for the rest of the 333 fleet.

I went on 150136 today, marked on the list as PRM and refurbished. It looked nice and shiny outside and had PRM, but internally it had only had a good clean - certainly not what I would call refurbished.

I saw one today at Deansgate, externally they look like they have a nice internal layout now. Makes me wonder why though they didn't repaint them at the same time as they will have to have more down time AGAIN to be put into new fleet livery

Presumably at some point it had an issue which required it to wait for components, and in the meantime other components stripped to keep the others in traffic. Before long, getting it back together and in traffic is a much bigger job. With the arrival of the 322s, the fleet had more slack so there was no rush... until now with refurbishment coming up, getting 009 back in traffic releases a unit to be worked on.

It's not that unusual for the odd unit in a fleet to become a "Christmas Tree", including relatively modern fleets such as the 333s.

Changing the livery is a fairly simple job now, as it's mostly vinyls rather than paint. Not sure if this applies to 150s but TPE have been turning 185s out fairly rapidly.

It's not just the impending refurbs that are reasons for bringing it back into services, the 333s are starting to show signs of their age and recently there have been a number of fails, enough to cause Northern to have to cancel multiple services when one goes down.

northern from the outset said they wouldn't put the new livery and name on a train until it had had a full refurbishment hence why the trains that have had the disabled toilets put in but not refurbished completely have a new coat of Northern Rail paint.
So its easy to tell which they deem to be a full refurbishment and the ones that have just had bits done like the 150 toilets by the colour on the outside

The 150s have a number of different internal layouts and the current number of internal layouts has increased as some have been reworked to fit an accessible toilet in.

Someone posted a few weeks ago that they weren't impressed with the new accessible toilet. It turned out there were referring to the toilet on one of the units FNW refurbished which are over 15 years old!

This was one of the more recent 150/1 DDA refurbishments, with the LED destination display,

I'm beginning to wonder if Northern have any 2 trains alike.

Saw earlier that 319450 has returned to Allerton from Wolverton in a white base & blue doors - the first refurbed to "new Northern" spec ?

The doors are a darker shade of blue than the Thameslink liveried ones they've got at Allerton - similar (pretty much identical in fact) to 150275's doors.
