Hi everyone, just after some advice. I applied for the role of trainee train driver with northern back in August and since then my application has changed status from under consideration to now saying under review.
My question is, how long did you wait to hear back once the status changed? I’m aware it can be a while but just after a rough idea. I’m due to end maternity leave soon at my current job and I would really like to not go back there for numerous reasons. Is it worth waiting to hear back from northern between now and the new year or shall I look for another job whilst still waiting? Would it look bad at an interview if I got a new job whilst I waited for an update?

I hope this makes sense, thank you

I faced this exact dilemma at this time last year. From memory my timeline was...

24th September - Applied
Early October - Received an email to say application was being screened
End October - Received the same emial above
Mid November - Received an email saying they were checking how many jobs they had as to whether there would be more interviews
Early Dec - Invited for interview
Mid Dec - Interview
Early Jan - Psychometrics
Mid Jan - Job offer
Feb - Medical
Mid March - Started

It was somehere in October where I got the 'under consideration' to 'under review' change

I was also pursuing other jobs as I had no idea how long the process would take.

It’s stressful waiting isn’t it, but thank you for this. I’m just hoping to hear before December whether that’s a rejection or an invitation and then I know where I stand

Yeah it’s very difficult, especially if you’re looking for other roles too. Which depot is it that you have applied for?

I imagine you’ll know either way by at least December. Fingers crossed and good luck

I’ve applied to Manchester, I’m happy with vic or picc, where did you end up?
I’m hoping so, and thank you ☺️

I applied in May, received the screening email on the 6th June. Interview invite on the 27th June. Had my medical last week and start in November after a couple of months in the talent pool

I’m based at Skipton, you’ll probably get a better idea of timings from the thread I posted in last year…

I applied in May this year, after 8 weeks of various emails saying its being sifted, under review, being screened etc got interview early July, psychometrics end of July, medical September and start date for November. Wouldn't read too much into the actual status, they do change throughout the sifting with no real clue what it means for you, unless you get a 'sorry not this time' email you're still in it which is a good thing. Ive heard of people waiting only 2 weeks for an interview and others up to 6 months. No harm applying for other roles aswell, won't go against you at all. It is a long old process and certainly a test of patience. Good luck!!
