Northern Trains with declassified "first class" section?

Another thread reminded me to ask, on occasion from Bolton I've caught a train with what looks like an ex-first class compartment adjacent to the cab, ie. a section of 2x1 seating. Those trains may be on the Southport or Blackpool - Manchester route, but I suppose could be anywhere at any given time.

My query is what is the type/number of the unit so I can look up their history? Thanks!!

Class 769 and Class 319. Probably 769 on that route.

Definitely not a 319 as those were 2+2 in first class and I don’t think they were changed when they migrated north.

They definitely aren't. The one I am going to sit in tomorrow morning is absolutely 2+1 in "first", and it came from the exact same Thameslink as the Northern units did.

You’re right in that it wouldn’t be a 319 as Northern only operate 319/3 with no first class, but the 319/4 converted into 769s were built with 2+1 seating which remained in the 769/4 and was very popular with the Rhymney commuters.

It does sound and look like a 319/3 although the photos show on Wiki 3x2 which I can't recall on the one/s I've travelled on, think apart from ex-first they are all 2x2; maybe refurbished. Will take a photo next time!

Thameslink had 2 interiors - Standard only 3+2 (CityMetro) and both classes 2+2 in Std/2+1 in 1st (CityFlyer). Plus the ex Southern /2s which were 2+2 Chapmans in Std.

Thanks chaps (it has been years since I was on one!).

I did a trip to Birmingham a couple of weeks ago and passed some of the LNWR 319s stabled at Bletchley. They’re still in the same grey and blue TL livery as when they left GTR and looking pretty sorry for themselves!

Interestingly the rainbow “Transforming Thameslink” colour scheme looks very like a Pride livery, but I don’t think had anything to do with it?!
