Hi folks,

Just wanted to say thanks for a great forum, has seriously helped me! Keep up the fantastic work!

Quick question for any recent northern trainees, would anyone be willing to DM or post there take home pay, even just a round about answer.

I'm going from a Police salary and trying to work out just how feasible it is and if I could survive for the first year.

Any help, or past experiences would be great.

Thanks

Hi

Currently a month in, we only got paid 3 weeks for last payday due to start date just gone but for a 4 week pay around £1300 after tax.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that GasPoweredRail (love the name!)

Just for anyone reading this, I've had a few dm's that say the same thing!

A bit of pain for the short term but worth it If you can manage.

Thanks folks!

Hi, sorry just came across this and I start with northern in June hopefully. Just wondered whether the take home pay above was worth your pension deductions too?

I’m in a similar position. Offered a spot on the May course and contract will come in a few weeks. I will have to put my notice in before I recieve the contract so asked for proof of salary, however not received anything yet.

Are you for leeds? I think may might be a push for me now with notice period etc? Have you had the medical?

No I’m for Manchester. Completed my medical a few weeks ago.
I was offered a provisional date for April however it was too short notice for my notice period.

That seems very risky. Have you considered asking for a reduction in your notice period?

I’ve had sight of the salary now and confirmation in writing of appointment, I’m happy with that.

It’s completely normal for the railway. Nearly everyone on my course quit their old jobs before getting a contract, mine came just a few days before my start date and others got theirs after they started.

Really? Thanks. That's good to know for future reference, I hope. ;)

HR assured me I had a job, so it’s not quite a leap of faith. It’s just a bit nerve wracking when you’re starting a course within a few days, have quit your old job and don’t actually have a contract  The opportunity is way too good to pass it up though.

Hi
Its a bit cheeky I know but I've got a face to face interview this Friday with Northern (12/04/19).
Could I ask what questions you were asked and or what should I expect?

Many Thanks if you can.

21732 however if the new deal goes ahead it'll be 23211

What about after training and once qualified? Finding it difficult to get an exact figure for this, and Northern don't put it on their advert!

At the moment 39k once you've passed out or after one year what ever comes first. It rises again year 2 and again year 3 to full money. Again new deal could change those figures .

That's great thank you. Does this figure include Sundays or are these considered overtime?

By new deal, would that mean harmonised conditions accross the company?

What terms are currently proposed and are they looking likely to make it in smoothly / any time soon?
