I've applied for a trainee train driver role back in december , I've just logged in tonight to check my application status that I do weekly . Its changed from " APPLICATION IN PROGRESS " to " ASSESSENT " .
What does this generally mean as I've checked and had no phone calls or voicemails left and no emails . I cant see anywhere on the db site where I can do any online assessments either. I've also been told if your application hasn't progressed by the start March then you will be required to reapply due to the northern changes too.

It’s worth a call to check but I’d say that’s progressed albeit you’ve not had an email invite to interview yet.. hopefully you’ll get that this week.. my interview invite was a few days after the status change online

Mine is just stuck at in progress whatever that means.

Will be reapplying anyway, haven't been rejected according to the emails I've had but Northern haven't responded to my email either.

All very frustrating but obviously it's always an up hill battle to get into the railway.

Hi all,
Assessment would usually mean an application is being assessed for suitability, with an interview to follow if successful, then followed by the Psychometric Tests and subsequently Medical/References. However, there is obviously a period of change with the new OLR, so I would suggest you call Northern HR on 01904568101 to get some advice in relation to your individual case.

Good luck!

I’ve received an email from them a week ago saying « Unfortunately we are no longer progressing with this role. »
Now that the gouvernement took over, I wonder where to look for future vacanciers with northern ??

I assume a new careers site will go live imenently - Northern are massive and they cannot go for long periods of not recruiting at all.

Does anyone know if any applications are being carried through? I received an email last week about my data being transferred in relation to my application in order for the continuity of the recruitment process?

I think you've answered your own question there.

But to reassure you, i had an interview last Thursday and I asked them if my application would be carried over.

The interviewer said it would be and not to worry. He jokingly said "this isn't our first rodeo", so it put my mind at ease.

I applied for a conductor role in NCL. Sadly, I didn't make it past the application for the driver role.

If you hear nothing in the coming week, just drop them an email. I'm sure HR are busy transferring everything this week.

I got a response to my email.

HR contact emailed the recruitment team who replied with this...

We appreciate your patience whilst your application is being considered.

There was a lot of interest in the roles, and it is taking us a little longer than expected to review each application. Rest assured, we will be back in contact as soon as we have an update for you.

We would like to thank you again for your interest in the role and we’ll be back in touch as soon as we can.

I’ve just had my email saying I’ve been invited to the assessment centre over in Doncaster next Tuesday, so booked myself a travel lodge for Monday night £30 isn’t to bad. Just in case road closures, accidents etc. Thanks for the help on this forum been very helpful.

I did this myself a few weeks back. Less stress if there’s traffic and a decent nights kip too. The M1 north was closed the morning of my assessment so I’m glad I did as someone didn’t make it!

So after taking the time to reapply as they weren't able to transfer applications from one system to another I found out last week that the recruitment for train driver had been dropped due to them already having too many applicants waiting for train driver courses.

Disappointed and a little fuming if I'm completely honest.

How they couldn't know when putting out an advert that they already had x amount of people waiting for courses is beyond me.

I'm started with GB Rail and have only complete the paper assessments as they do it over 2 days.(again on hold) I found them OK just practice and use this forum to gather info as well as the info pack from Northern on the assessments it really does work.
