Indeed, my point was not particularly aimed at you as you didn't keep going on about London. I am aware you have a much better local knowledge of this particular route than I will likely ever have.
The questions I would then therefore put to you as someone with local knowledge is:
- Do you think that these journeys originate with a change at Westgate, or simply because people prefer to use Westgate as it is better cited for Wakefield and is generally a nicer station.
- Do you think some of these people would therefore not bother going to Kirkgate to catch the train or would be massively inconvenienced.
- (Devils advocate) If we truly are going to try and get Kirkgate to become a better station with more importance to the city then allowing everyone to travel from westgate is counter productive?
Your last point is probably quite telling and also raises a much wider point of connectivity between two seperate city centre stations. Warrington being another good example. So should we aim for 2tph between the two, but that will surely require some resignalling works at westgate?
FANTASY ALERT - in a world where we electrify things sensibly i'd have a commuter EMU running Leeds - Woodlesford, Castleford, Normanton, Wakefield Kirkgate, Wakefield Westgate, Outwood & Leeds. One per hour in each direction. But alas that is crayon drawing at its finest.
