I saw a single 153 doing one today. Think usually a mix of singles and pairs of 153s but don't quote me

Usually 2 single 153s and a 156. Sometimes a 158 in place of the 156. Sometimes 2x153 in place of the 156. Sometimes the single carriage diagrams are strengthened.

Not seen any recently, but on saturdays, it used to be two single 153s, and one 2 coach formation that could be anything from 2x153, a 156 or even a 158.
On Uttoxeter Race Days, they now try to find longer trains - even Meridians sometimes.

Saw the Scot Rail 158s and 170s on the Leeds-Nottingham and York-Preston today.

I thought Northern might have painted them before putting them into service.

Not on these runs no - I doubt they're legally allowed to carry passengers on driver training, and regardless, I don't think they would want to.

They have apparently entered fare-paying service though.

None of the 170s with Northern have yet worked any passenger trains - any movements seen are purely training or positioning runs.

There are a couple of Scotrail branded 170's sat in the yard near Engine Shed junction on Leeds this morning.

None of the cascades have managed to put any significant dent in Northern's short forms. Journey Check this morning was listing 57 short formations as of 06:55 this morning, most appear to be two vice four and all in the LNW region.
Blackpool is still only on one train per hour to Manchester and the Manchester Victoria to Huddersfield service is truncated to a shuttle between Stalybridge and Huddersfield due to engineering work, one wonders how many more we would be seeing if both of these were open.

That should hopefully mean the first 3 car hybrids will be created very soon, otherwise Northern will have a toilet-less 150.

Apparently some 153s are being prepared to transfer as well.

153305/373/380 are all due to end the day at SPM in readiness for transferring up North over the weekend. No path in RTT for the move yet though.

That doesn't make sense. EMT don't keep local trains at Neville Hill, only HSTs. Do EMT even have any drivers who sign both Neville Hill and 153s?

I thought these were for Northern anyway. EMT are quoting theirs arriving in early July.

I've had another look at the thread over on wnxx and the three I've quoted above are definitely for northern, along with two others. Four other Angel 153s then go to EMT in July.

They would no doubt be going there to have work done first. According to WNXX the person involved in the preparations for their dispatch at PM says Neville Hill. Also EMT HSTs are allocated there.

Nobody who works for EMT at Neville Hill had a clue about 153's, they only know HST's (as well as being able to do basic 91 maintenance). If 153's are coming to NL they'll be for Northern.

They are not the EMT allocation. They are not arriving with the company until July. NL is also a Northern DMU depot and will do contract work as well.

If the only reason you are assuming this is because of the depot location then I will chuck a fiver in a charity box if I'm wrong. If you're privy to other information then fair enough.

Indeed. EMT are currently short forming services due to units being away for PRM work so need extra units in service as soon as they can secure them. In the past they had no problem putting tatty ex-ATN 156s straight in to service as soon as they transferred from Northern - they just put up notices saying the carriages had recently arrived, had spent many years in service with other operators and they would be refurbished shortly and sorry about the condition of them in the mean time.

I'm beginning to agree that they are for Northern in view of the latest info from GWR sources although the first story was that they were for Scotrail. However, the move is not expected to take place until Monday at the earliest so that looks like their showing will be at the last minute in RTT. The 153 move is now said on WNXX to be for Heaton dropping 2 off at Leeds and the other continuing on. The fact that Heaton has been mentioned now convinces me that they ARE for Northern after and that EMT was "fake news".

I have read they'll be with Northern for a few months before potentially heading to Scotrail to make 3-car 156 hybrids. How true that is i have no idea

I just hope they drop 373 off at NH as I need that one. Not keen on having to go all the way up to the North East for it!

Northern would certainly benefit from a temporary increase in capacity! There has been a lot of short forming recently and 3 extra 153s would reduce the loss in capacity.
