Hi guys, I'm starting my conductors training tomorrow in Bolton and I'll be travelling from Blackpool. I'm just checking if I'm ok to travel free on other rail networks with my northern travel pass?

They are also valid for free travel on Merseyrail and Greater Anglia, you will also shortly get a TOCNE priv card for 75% discount on Anytime fares.

Officially you can't use the Transpennine service but speak to the guard and he'll let you on. You need to apply for a residential pass if your going to commute by TPE for any length of time.

What you'll find though is they'll probably retime the course slightly to allow you to use Northern services

Thanks for the info, think I'll play safe on my first day and travel with northern as I was going to get a TPE!

Actually, you can officially use TPE if it is to and from work. It's in the new starters pack. It's the usual gentlemans agreement out of work time.

This , but you still need a residential permit if you wish to exercise your right to commute by tpe . Thats what It said in my starter pack anyway
