When did Northern’s sponsor a station through your business start? The new signs up at Bradford, Halifax and Sowerby Bridge are awful.

Talk about milking every last ££££.

If it's generating much needed revenue, then I don't have an issue with it.

The railway is already saturated with signage so a few more to ignore won't do any harm.

There have been sponsored signs at some Northern stations for years, probably well over a decade.

I don't think that they sponsor the station but the Friends of Hindley Station certainly look after the station surrounds with interesting "exhibitions" and have their own website.

These signs? I must confess I travel this line daily and I only noticed them earlier.

Not those exact signs, but what is actually being offered, i.e. companies placing their advert in that space under the station name board. For example, the signs advertising The Mill at Batley station that have been there as long as I can remember.

It's not just a Northern thing either, other TOCs do it too. It's not disruptive advertising, the actual station sign stays unchanged. Given Northern is heavily subsidised, any income from things like this reduce the amount the taxpayer has to fund.

I don't see an issue with this.

My opinion. Tatty, cheap, unprofessional, disruptive - belongs in the bus indusrty - should have ended when DFTO took over.

The worst one used to be at Hale, where the name of the place seemed buried amongst an advert for some lawyer.

I recall contacting the station manager for Rochdale when I witnessed a young woman stand up from a platform bench and inadvertently walk straight into into a sponsor's board hung beneath the running-in board, which had previously been set high enough to walk under, fortunately without serious injury.
