Northern should order Class 755s for express services

They need to get some 755s. 100mph capable and go like the clappers, proper pressed back into the seat with an enthusiastic driver.
This is the North East region of the Northern franchise, remember, where the clock stopped on rolling stock upgrades before privatisation was implemented. ;)

A 195 follow on order is more realistic*

*Operationally, but not with the current cost cuts. Northern stated their intent for a hybrid follow-on order for 195s but was declined by the DfT this time last year.

ideal for running via the ECML. OLE between Newcastle and Darlington, diesel forward to Middlesbrough.

You’d probably need to do it as a bigger order to make the necessary depot modifications or new depot worthwhile due to them being much more worked on from above rather than below thus allowing the level boarding. Modifying Crown Point Depot in this way to be 100% Stadler cost in excess of £40m.
