On Northern's Facebook page they are announcing that 8 more units will be pressed into service from this month's new timetable, on the Manchester Airport, Manchester Victoria, Wigan & Preston services out of Liverpool. Sorry can't post the text from my mobile.

Are rumours of more units ie all the /3s going to Northern correct?

Shocking the 329/0 /2 /4 are without a home soon

When will the the next batch of electric units be required in service?

No, I think it'd be more of a shocker if the Electrostars (and 365s!) were to go without a home. The Class 387/1 batch of 29 was ordered to cover the delay in procurement for the final Thameslink Class 700 fleet in order to allow the (so far 20) Class 319s to be transferred to their new route.

AIUI the Electrostars are due to be replaced first in order to begin the transfer to the Great Western routes, though there is a chance that this may be altered as a result of delay in the electrification programme.

There'll be plenty of PEP and Mk3 derivative EMUs to go around once the replacement rolling stock fleets have settled in.

Liverpool - Airports in its entirety, Selected Liverpool - Wigan/Vic jobs on a random number/diagram/unit generator!

So Liverpool to Manchester Airport is split into 3 diagrams, 2 of which are currently covered by 319s, when the third also "goes electric" this leaves 7 of the additional 8 we will see from May 17th to cover Liverpool to Wigan, Victoria, Preston.

Preston will only be covered by the 319s for one journey a day so I am guessing this won't occupy and entire train all day.

How many diagrams is the hourly Liverpool to Victoria service split into and how many of these will be covered by 319s?

How many diagrams is the half hourly Liverpool to Wigan North Western service split into and how many of these will be covered by 319s?

The initial use of the 387/1 on Great Western is on an already eletric route.

There are already 319361-65/67/68 that have entered passenger service in the North West. In addition 319369/80/86 are at Allerton but have not yet entered service.

Has 364 actually operated in passenger service yet? 382 is also at Allerton, but not been in service.

I was under the impression that if they were to be self-contained diagrams it would be..

3 units for Liverpool-Man Airport
3 units for Liverpool-Man Vic
4 units for Liverpool-Wigan

This requires 10 units. Does anyone know which Liverpool-Preston service will be operated?

You need 2 units for Warrington BQ making 12 in all.
If they accelerated/interworked the timetable you would not need all those.
Liverpool South Parkway to Blackpool uses 4 units I think, with Preston terminators only early and late.
There's still the option of splitting the Blackpools at Preston.

PTSO or platform depending on the weather

I'm sure they will be found a home in time. And it will take time for enough 700's to be in revenue-earning trouble-free service before the remaining 319's can move on. Remember they are all going through classified overhaul at present and being turned out in a base, neutral livery (with transfers applied by the current TL operator). They are only on average 26 years old.

And I still think some should go to Southern Coastway to replace the 313's (but that's for another thread elsewhere....)

1800 Lime St-Preston will be a 319.

And as mentioned Warrington BQ won't be going over to electrics just yet.

So if the 1800 Liverpool-Preston is a 319, will there be a return working or will it be ECS?

Thought so. I guess it returns as 05+25 Preston-Wigan NW ECS? As the first Liverpool is covered by the 0703 ex-Blackpool.

Whats the max speed of the 319s? Looking at random timings on RTT for Liv LS to MIA and Liv LS to Wigan NW after May 18th, all the timings state " timed for 75mph max " and " pathed for Class 150 etc Sprinter DMU "? The TPE DMUS (185s) running Liv LS to Man Vic/ Newcastle are timed for 100 max . They share the same track from Liv LS to Eccles and Ordsall Lane junction.

319s are 100 mph units, but they won't amend the timetable until they become the default stock. I doubt this would be done until the 2016 timetable.

319s can do 100mph, but the Chat Moss is a 90mph (max) route.
185s won't exceed this either.
319s will be able to get to 100mph (briefly) when they work up the WCML from Wigan to Preston (well, Wigan-Balshaw Lane Jn).

Have all 319 diagrams been confirmed then? Will all Liverpool-Man Vic/Wigan services be 319s or will there be the odd diesel working?

8 x 319s all in Northern livery were stabled at Allerton late morning today.

I saw one at Oxford Road in service at around 16:05 and I noticed a pantograph up behind some 142s and 150s at Stockport sidings at around 16:30, so presumably that was a 319.

So how many diagrams will be out this time next week? I have heard both 8 and 10 mentioned through different sources. Would love to see some diagrams..
