I'm fed up of this attitude that Northern is so hard done when no-one has actually suggested a single actual idea to how to deal with the issues. If your going to complain then at least have the guts to suggest how you make Northern pay its way, otherwise your views are just rants which is fast becoming boring.
Fighting an injustice is NOT having a chip on my shoulder. Where is the justice of £2700 per head spend in London compared to £300 per head in Yorkshire on rail infrastructure? That makes a mockery of your argument about fare subsidy being greater in the North.
A desire for 2+2 seating is wrong? If 319s are to be refreshed and retrimmed then all seats are removed anyway, so costs no more to put them back as 2+2. In fact it costs less not trimming the 5th seat and seat back in each row. I suggest you get your facts right before posting inaccuracies.
people have pointed out that for many years the South was using RS well past its use by date and that th North has had new rolling stock but yourself and others have not even bothered to respond to these posts and still roll out the same tired and unreliable information again and again.. YAWN.
getting perfectly servicable rolling stock to increase capacity in the north

And who are you to give something a time frame for its shelf life? Chartered engineer are we?
See thats why I like selective quoting because it means you can prove a point with 2 examples and means you dont have to even consider the fatc that the north has had new rolling stock within that time frame.
also would seem to prove that there is still a good 10+ years or more left in the 319s then doesnt it
Sorry but the slam door EMUs were on pretty much every non-suburban route on the Southern Region until 2002/2003 until being withdrawn by the end of 2005 bar a couple. The class 101s however limped on in vastly fewer numbers. Not a fair comparison at all when you had 1980s/90s built units on the majority of routes. If we take the expected shelf life of products being 25-30 years for DMUs and 35-40 years for EMUs:
The South West Trains 421s would have had an expected withdrawal date of 1999-2004. A few examples lasted until 2010, 6 years beyond their shelf life.
The First North Western 101s would have had an expected withdrawal date of 1981-1986. Some examples lasted until 2003, 17 years beyond their shelf life.

Injustice? You do realise that your so badly done by franchise is requiring a £1m a day to keep it going? Prehaps this is the situation you should be addressing rather than complaining that other franchises get more, especially when the stock your complaining about is coming from a franchise that gives more to Government that it recieves.
For reference the 22 month (roughly 660 days) contract recieves £633m in subsidy.

I hate to burst your hypocritical balloon, but London Underground is subsidised by £3m a day of public money according to the latest published figures. For every £2.80 fare, £1 is subsidy to the tune of £1billion annually. Considering the population of the Northern franchise area is 13 million and London is only 7 million, that is six times more subsidy per head than the North. How do you square that one.
See this is where I know you are just blinded by some rather strange fury as I havent once mentioned anything about fare subsidy - just that its rather silly to complain about getting perfectly servicable rolling stock to increase capacity in the north - which is what is required. Everything else has been debunked by others a fair few times already but it seems you are just unwilling to either read or accept it.
LEts face it both in this thread and the 'Londons great but the north gets nowt' thread, people have pointed out that for many years the South was using RS well past its use by date and that th North has had new rolling stock but yourself and others have not even bothered to respond to these posts and still roll out the same tired and unreliable information again and again.. How do I square it, well considering that the Tube carries around 70% of the passengers as the national rail network its fairly clear to everyone that the Tube just doesn't get used by Londoners. Or are you trying to claim that only Londoners ever use the Tube?
And your figures require some updating at its 8m so your claims are off.
Of course fact you've clearly failed to reply to my replies to your before suggest that you are just ranting and refusing to see anything other than your own point of view. Prehaps you should try and use some of that anger over your belief that Northern is so hard done by and actual do something productive like suggest how Northern can build a solid business case for new rolling stock?
They are still 25 years old before we get them and have been run into the ground.
These nice shiny new trains coming on Thameslink will also be around for around 40 years, so I guess in 20 years time there will be loads of moans about how old they are.
We are only getting 319s as that balances the books better for Thameslink new 700s than scrapping.
I also don't think that the northern subsidy includes infrastructure improvements whilst the tube's is its total costs for everything.
Is 319361 having the northern livery applied or is it staying in the first livery?
Isn't it pretty unusual for a unit to leave a franchise with full branding intact? As it has, does this lend weight to Northern assuring FCC that they'll quickly re-brand it? I wonder will it be vinyl upon vinyl?
No, the NW electrification scheme only got past the Treasury on the basis that new trains would not be needed as well.
158s which were transferred to TPE from Central Trains entered service for TPE with the Central Trains name intact but with a notice on board saying the trains had been transferred and put straight in to service without rebranding or any internal makeover.
Depends what else is in service at the time. People refer to the 333s as new as they are the newest thing in the Northern fleet. However, I've heard people complain about the original 377s being tired and shabby. OK they could do with a refresh but are they really in any worse condition than the 333s?
If the 322s are anything to go by the First branding will he removed and Northern name and brand applied. A bit "quick and dirty" for a rebrand!
