I have just finished my 5th week of training as a trainee conductor and I have to say what a great company Northern is to work for. From the moment I started, through my induction and into the training Academy, everything is exceptional. The standard of training is second to none and i really feel that the company is looking after its employees. Really looking forward to qualifying and go out and do what appears to be an amazing job ;)

To be fair a lot of the horror stories are from a passenger perspective. They were probably the best employer I've had - very supportive, good Ts&Cs and generally engage with front-line staff on how things can be improved going forwards. Heidi Mottram and Alex Hynes would actually regularly come into mess rooms and chat to people, things got a bit worse under 'a certain MD' (who would generally do his best to avoid staff) but from what I've heard things are pretty good with the OLR.

To be fair they've always been fine with me,then again I've never given them any reason to be other than.
Mottram and Hynes were very good MD's,Mottram in particular. Any subsequent ones I wouldn't know if I fell over them
