Any ideas when they may be advertising for new drivers Leeds/Manchester? There havent been any for quite a while (unless I missed them).

They were advertised late last year. I'm still awaiting a position to come up at Leeds. Recruitment is frozen/quiet until early 2016 due to Northern not having the franchise after end of March 2016

Recruitment has not been frozen. They have regularly been recruiting over the last few months. They had leeds towards the end of last year I believe and positions for Trainee Train drivers have recently closed (1-2 Months) for Workington and Liverpool.

Frozen was the wrong word, but I couldn't think of the word I was after. I was told by NR that HR that they couldn't see any future requirements for new trainee drivers (maybe just at leeds but that wasn't stated) until early 2016, possibly late 2015.

Check their website in careers, usually they put new jobs in on a Friday and they are train driver jobs ongoing.

Yeah regarding with the new franchise coming in, April 2016. Driver positions would not be advertised. But who knows when they announce the new company to take control then maybe theyll look after then. All I know is things are changing in the North East with northern.

I've toldi'm in a pool of three for trainee driver at leeds, so i've got my fingers and toes crossed. As a pool of three is (hopefully) a better chance than a pool/list of 20.

Darryl

I've just got a call from a guy called Tom Green regarding my application as an MDD for Leeds.

So recruitment is on-going as we speak it seems.

Did he mention any MDD vacancies coming up at Neville Hill?

This is my email that I received:

[Email title: MDD Application, Leeds]

Hi Lee,

I tried calling you on your mobile but it just went to your answering machine. Are you able to give me a call on the number below if you get a chance?

Thanks

Tom Green

I can only assume that it's at Neville Hill. As I only took my tests for an MDD role and not a commercial driver.

Yes, at very short notice. As i understand it the internal applicants failed their assessments. The vacancies were never advertised externally as Northern had enough of us " in the pool " who went for the MDD jobs in June ( i think it was then ), passed interviews and assessments but didn't get those jobs. So it went to internals first, then us " Pond Life " :D

Maybe they took pity on us?

Perhaps it's our time?

Or Northern is filling-in until you're available to join and secure their next tenure?

I'm sure with your incisive knowledge of all-things-railway you'll enlighten us forthwith?

Both Manchester depots are now at or over their establishment of drivers with drivers from other depots awaiting transfers in. Is the rumour on the internal grape vine.

Does anyone know if Northern are losing the franchise in 2016? Or is it still up in the air?

The current operators of Northern won't be running the franchise from April, as they weren't one of the three companies who were invited to tender for the franchise

Not quite correct. The Abellioand Serco partnership are the current operators and Abellio Northern is one of three bidders for the new franchise - it's just Serco who have dropped out of the partnership.
