Looks like may be upkeeping with the tradition of Friday phone calls :)

Any day will do ! Just concerned my work requires 4 weeks notice. They'll try and be a pain even though they're making some departments redundant!

Have you got any info regarding the Trainee Conductor role or do you only deal with Drivers?

I would assume that if some qualified conductors go onto driving soon they will need replacing so the timetable changes could have an influence on conductor courses also?

Anybody know when the next course dates are?? iv heard there are some starting in June? will it be first come first serve or will it go from your assessment results?

Who else has applied for the Man Vic depot iv heard there is high turnover there so people waiting to start there may not be in for that long of a wait?

I've been in the pool over 7 weeks for Manchester Depots ! By the looks of it, things are going to start moving at the end of the week, from what's been said on here

Only HR will have the answer to that. As an educated guess I would suspect the highest scoring candidates would be considered first.
As to high turnover, that isn't particularly the case at the moment. There are a few retirees at Vic and a few toying with the idea of freight, plus one or two with transfer requests in for other depots. The main need for recruitment at the moment is the Northern Hub and everything it entails.

Lets hope things start moving soon then eh! cant wait to start the railway seems like such a good career!

Sorry for all the questions....but what are the shifts like as a conductor, do you only work 4 days a week and are on a shift basis like a week of earlies and a week of lates?

At West depots guards do weeks of shifts ie earlies/lates with a rest-day pattern based on the same principle as the drivers (wk 1 M/T rest days, wk 2 W/Th rest days, wk 3 F/Sa rest days etc) but the guards do have the odd extra day dotted about the roster so it isn't exactly the same - they are not quite on a true 'four out of six' day week as the drivers are. Sundays are outside the working week for both drivers and guards, so any Sundays worked are voluntary overtime.

There is a course starting in June. Places are already confirmed (for conductors and drivers) from what I gather. I suspect post Xmas applicants will be on the next one, but I don't know when that is. Again it all comes down to results and standing in the TP

It is my understanding that the scores you attain during your DM interview are what ultimately decides your selection onto a course.

Apologies, yes,i am on the conductor course, however,i am also aware of several other driver's who have been informed they are starting on the same date in June, which probably suggests the vacancies have been filled?

I am also aware of two people on the June Driver course, whether this means the course is filled or not I do not know.

I was also on the latest recruitment drive, looks as though my scores wernt up to much then! gutted looks as though im going to be here for a long time!

Mate, take it easy, it's most unlikely you'll get a course right after passing assessments, it just doesn't seem to happen.

Patience. Trust me.

You wouldn't have got this far if your scores weren't up to much mate so don't get disheartened, lots of people would kill to be in your position.

Courses are every two months so you shouldn't be waiting to long
