I was starting to think 60 in the pool wasn't accurate, but as the weeks go on and more people join the forum looking for answers maybe 60 is about right.

I'm beginning to wonder whether there's a lot more people swimming in this pool than they actually require!! That's worrying!!

I don't mean to worry you more but isn't course places also allocated on the highest interview scores also?

I'm pretty certain you will be allocated a course date but it's just a matter of waiting. I guess the only thing you can do if your unhappy about it is retract your application and seek employment elsewhere.

Would be nonsensical considering we've waited this long
I wanna believe it but the longer it goes on I just hope they stick to thier word and don't just re advertise next year or whenever

Just a quick question....the status of my application on the Northern website states "On hold following successful conductor assessment" is this the same as everybody elses or is there different status messages?

Also is it a good thing that it states that? with it saying on hold im not too sure

On Hold= On Hold for an upcoming position/next available course place

Talent pool= Waiting for a position to become available

Everyone goes in the pool as soon as they pass thier tests and thier application says on hold after successful conductor/driver assessment while they evaluate the scores and decide who is having what position.

If there aren't enough jobs for everyone on the pool the remaining ones are left in the pool until a position becomes available, this reduces the need to advertise the positions again as they can call on the people already in the pool immediately.

When the pool is getting empty then the jobs are advertised again to restock the pool.

When I passed my conductor assessment last June it stated on my Northern account 'on hold after sucesfull conductor assessment.

I was told that someone would be in touch regarding a start date soon, my status stayed like that from June to late August.

In late August I received an email informing me that there were no longer any positions available at Skipton so my application will remain on file and if any future positions became available they would be in touch asap.

My status then turned to talent pool.

Hope this clears things up abit.

All places are now allocated on the June course, subject to any straggling medical results etc.

Next one at Bolton is due to start seven weeks later, doesn't look like it will have the maximum 12 places on it as things stand.

Thanks Llama, any idea why they don't have the full 12 allocated spaces filled or is it just to meet current demand?

After the July one is there anymore dates pencilled in ?

Thanks

Are the driver courses scheduled to start in june for any specific depot or is it a mix from the posts in Manchester, Liverpool, wigan etc

No info in guard's courses, sorry, I am only involved in driver training.

June's course is mainly for Manchester depots.

There will be further courses this year but firm start dates are not yet set - nothing is definite this far in advance. There is a bit of a bottleneck forming due to recent events so it might be that places on courses for some depots become slightly thinned out, ie trainees recruited in fewer numbers but over a more sustained period of time.

Still baffles me why they reopened the application process in February when they had plenty from November and then jan

How true is it that they like to give 5 weeks notice before a course? If so people should hear for July soon
