Northern Rail Vacancy

I applied for a CSA role with Northern Rail back in December, a few weeks later I was told to do a online test, which I duly did and the submission deadline for this was the 3rd January.

I received an email from Northern, informing me that I had passed that stage of the application and that the next stage would be shortlisting. However, they also advised that 'This vacancy, however, has now been placed on hold' and they would contact me again in 3-4 weeks with an update.

Does anybody know what 'has been been placed on hold' actually means?

This is probably not much help cos I don't know what "On Hold" means but I can tell you Northern are not the fastest movers when it comes to job offers.
I went for interview in October, medical in November and have been told I got the job a couple of weeks ago. I then asked a question or two about the contract and I am still waiting on a reply. So keep your fingers crossed or phone their HR department in York.

I would have thought it means that they are reviewing the need for the vacancy to be filled (for example, after restructuring,) or that it has been filled by other means (for example, if someone has had to be taken off another role for, say, medical reasons.) Best idea is to keep ringing HR once a month and ask for an update. Things are notoriously slow and laborious on the railway, but circumstances also change within an instant. Good luck with the application anyway.
