New 45 min time to depot as well
Probably not a bad idea, I wouldn't want to work any further than that. That time can be doubled for most in rush hour and I wouldn't want to leave any earlier for a 4am start!

I live about 55 minutes and travel 38 miles to my depot and it's a killer at times.
Mr AA route planner says 43 for mine but I can do it quite comfortable in 34

I know a Driver that transferred to Northern at Barrow.
I have applied for the position at Doncaster. Any advice would be great. I applied a couple of years ago, got through the online assessment but didn't get a interview.
What sort of things are they looking on the application. I've never been great at putting things into words

Mainly customer service in your application I would say and in the interview will be all example based questions and possibly some about the company, then tests in Leeds probably, ive just got through everything finally and been offered trainee conductor role at Sheffield start November cant wait, but nervous. Really good luck to you mate its worth it in the end, keep at it mate, let me know how you go on..
Need anymore detailed advice let me know, people on here have helped me loads so will do same for anyone too

No not as yet. They have pulled vacancy down though so I assume they are in the process of letting people know. I'll probaby get email asking to redo online assessment

Hi Paul have an interview for trainee conductor this Thursday in Leeds. Really pleased as only submitted the application earlier this week. Just panicking now for the interview! Is it just individual or is there a group part to it as well?

glad to hear you got through for interview, I had mine back in June in Sheffield, mine was just with 2 guys the conductor manager and train driver manager both nice guys and just tried to be myself. Was mainly example based questions about times when dealt with a difficult customer, organisational skills etc but they also asked me abit about the company and a question on how far north they went.
Wheres your interview at mate? I start training on Monday in Leeds may see you if its at the training centre, based at Sheffield depot if pass course, all the best to you, good luck. anything else just ask or pm me

give them an email or 2 mate, I was emailing them all the time think she got fed up in the end and rang me but it kept my name in their head etc, good luck mate]

Paul -hope your getting on ok today...
My interview is at South Parade, am I right in thinking it's the building next to Sukothai? One email I have says it's for an interview but another reads 'Invite to Selection Event / Recruitment Day / Interview'. Not sure what to expect but I'm doing a lot of prep work this week so hopefully be ready for whatever I'm faced with! Really looking forward to it now whereas my attitude over the weekend was dreading it.
Hi Shaun, I'm the same. Applied on the 27th but not heard anything. It did say at the time though it could be 4-6 weeks. Training doesn't start until the last week in January so I'm not too concerned. if I haven't heard anything by next week, I will contact them.
You are correct with the location. I think its the second floor you need. Dead easy to find and a really nice atmosphere once there. I had my interview at the queens hotel next to the station back in August. One of the best interviews I've ever had. So long as you do your homework on the company, its routes and think of some good situations for the competency based questions you'll nail it. I get the impression they look for people who are comfortable in the interview environment, relaxed, open to chat etc. The guy I had doing my interview was a manager from Leeds and was a great bloke. In fact, all of my dealing with Northern HR have been great. Relax and enjoy the experience. You already sound to have the right attitude.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Lee, did you end up getting the role you went for? I'm OK with interviews it's just group interviews I tend to panic in, don't want to take over and end up not coming out as a team player which is the feedback I've had before so then the following one I sat back a bit and the feedback given was that I didn't shine through as a leader... From then on I've really been thrown as how to behave in a group session ha ha.
I was lucky enough to get offered a position at Skipton, but sadly had to decline as the timing was too soon. I couldn't leave my current position until the end of the year. HR were great to talk to and very understanding. They suggested deferring until a position became available in the new year. Fingers crossed.
From what you say regarding the group interviews, I think we have similar traits. Don't worry though as to the best of my knowledge the interviews are not group. At least they weren't in August. I would guess you, plus driver/conductor manager, plus another manager type taking notes and chipping in when needed. They are good at making you feel at ease to extract information in a relaxed way. Honestly, my interview could've been done stood at a bar! Have you got dates yet for assessments should you be successful? I was interviewed on the Friday with assessments the following Wednesday. And I thought this process was slow!

The advert for the job stated a start date of 26th of January I have to give a notice period of 4 weeks so that wouldn't be a problem. I'm lucky that I can take my annual leave pretty much at the drop of a hat in my current role so should any odd days be required before then I'll be able to fit them in. Yeah I've read a few times on these forums about the process being slow but it's been a week between my initial application to interview so I'm very happy with that nothing worse then checking your emails every hour for weeks and weeks which I've done in the past! Just making some last minute notes now and going to get an early night. Thanks for the help and advice let you know how I've got on.

Seemed to go really well at my end nice laid back environment as you said Lee. I reckon I nailed most things as had practised just the common sense one that threw me out but after a pause and gathered my thoughts I was able to come up with something. Should hear within a week if selected for the testing. Thanks Paul /Lee for the info.

I've got the booklet from Northern with example questions in, but any advice on top of this would be appreciated! My Assesment day is next friday so going to run through it every night until then. As long as I know I've given it my best shot -if you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail!
