Northern Rail - today was a pleasure!

Having travelled to/from Carlisle today (1055 from Wakefield Kirkgate out, and 1520 from Carlisle return), I have to say I have been thoroughly impressed.

But why?

1) Clean trains, including a FoSC volunteer coming through TWICE and pro-actively asking for people's litter.
2) The train also cleaned at Carlisle by cleaners.
3) A brilliant, chatty, friendly guard.
4) Trolley service, which today I wasn't expecting. Operated by another chatty, friendly guy.
5) Both services on time.
6) Direct to/from Wakefield, which actually made the journey more pleasant.
7) Comfortable 158. Didn't have any seat issues.
8) Amazing scenery.

Northern Rail normally get negative feedback, and that's normally just from me , but credit where it's due, our journeys today were fault free!

We Gogs are inquisitive, I was taught always ask what the jargon means, if its a Politician they look for an answer, but on RF its sound comment.
Yes I could have looked it up, but after an excellent two hours on Crewe station today I am going to shout a good similar experience.

I have found Northern Rail to be very good on some occasions, not so good on others. Much depends on the route and the stock involved.

For instance, I enjoyed a very nice journey on a 158 from York to Leeds. IIRC it was a Blackpool service. But a journey on some sort of electric unit around Manchester was less pleasant.

And in 2004 I had a very nice, well kept LHCS on the Settle & Carlisle, followed by a dirty 158 on the way back!

I guess it's just luck of the draw!
