Northern rail recruitment - a quick query

Hi everyone!

Just getting a bit nervous about my applicatio

It's a conductor vacancy. Basically today I got the email saying I made it through to the online tests. I completed the numeracy test and immediately after I received an email about the verbal test, which I completed immediately.

Where I now fall short is that I've seen other people's experiences include a third, situational, test. Now I haven't received and emails after the verbal test ts so I was wondering if this meant that I failed the verbal test and if anybody knew what that means in terms of whether I'd be able to progress at all.

Unless it's something that's been added very recently, candidates for the Wigan Conductor vacancy went from Numeric > Verbal > (sifting) > Assessment Day, that was in November if I recall. Often a 2-3 week wait for sifting.

Thank you so much for getting back to me, in all honesty other posts I've seen about the recruitment process are more than a few years old so they may be a slightly dated process.

But yeah, you've put my mind at ease somewhat. In all trruth I just want to escape my current job and train conductor for some reason has always been a job I'd love to do!

When I applied last year there was the numerical first, which I passed and found out straight away as was invited to take the verbal test. After the verbal they don't tell you if you passed it or not. I think they must then take the best scores, look through their applications then decide which to interview. Good luck. Which depot have you applied for?

Hi! First of all, both of you that have replied are completely right. I got a bit antsy about it and emailed northern and they've gotten back to me and said I have made it through to sifting!

Also, I've applied for the role at Blackburn.

Does anyone know if everyone who applies gets the online tests, or do they sift them first and only send the tests out to the ones that meet the criteria? I thought the tests were to sift so they didn't have to read through all the hundreds of applications, but someone thought different when I asked today and thinks they sift then send out the tests. Just curious.

From the email I've received back from Northern, the sifting comes after the tests!
