Could possibly get them from North Western over the road (unsure if you can collect them from Wallgate since the refurb?). G4S at Wallgate can't understand the concept of split tickets though, even when clearly stating what tickets are required (all local, off peak returns), the possibility of them grasping the concept of starting late on a ticket would be lost on them!

But he has evidence to show that he didn't board at Gathurst. He can't stop the RPIs if they want to hassle him unfairly.

That is the whole point I'm on about, someone who isn't aware of the ticket validities and there seem to be quite a few whether they be RPI's, Conductors or Agency Staff may decide wrongly that it is not valid and give him a hard time.
I've no idea of a solution but as RJ knows there are staff who refuse to accept valid tickets on there train and kick off.
