As a qualified Driver looking to move North (ideally N/Yorkshire York area), need to know whether Northern have a drivers depot at York? Can't find any information.
And also what's the normal starting rate for Qualified Driver at Northern?

York does have a drivers depot at York but very rare for a position to come up there as it usually has a few names on transfer list ready to fill any vacancies, same with Harrogate. Best bet would be to apply for Leeds and get your name on the list from there

TPE have a big one at York though which may be better? Leeds is not far from York also.

As an incoming qualified you'll probably find you can basically pick your spot. All depots need drivers at the mo. But as suggested above Leeds is probably your best choice.

Cheers guys for the Info. Not sure whether to wait and see for FTPE vacancies at York (?) or register with Northern, bit of a pay drop from FCC?

They may be a bit of a pay drop but remember it is a lot cheaper to live up north. Factor that in and make your decision. TPE have just had a big recruitment drive so not sure when there next one will be. They will certainly need one before Dec 2016 but that is quite a wait. Might be best to get your foot in the door.

Amazingly you have one typed of shared traction between Northern and FCC.

Cheers YorkshireBear,
I believe that's EMU Class 321. Quality brakes !, slipped into Baldock tonight, luckly the Emergency brake stopped me in the platform just pass my 4 car marker ( 8 car platform), fun and games. Yes will think about Northern. What routes do Leeds sign? Or should try and go for York as North Yorkshire where I'd like to relocate.

I was offered a position with Northern at Leeds before deciding to plump for FCC (this was for a trainee position). I seem to remember the DM saying they sign quite a bit - Sheffield, Lincoln (?), York, Nottingham, Blackpool, Carlisle amongst others (last two for the top link though). I think you start off doing the Bradford Forster Square work and build up your routes from there. They said Leeds was a pretty big depot with drivers often moving out from there so it doesn't take too long to move up the links.

If looking at FTPE, I think they also have a depot at Scarborough - if any use?

Leeds is very easily commutable from York area with 5 trains per hour. You get a variety of routes too. And there is always the option to move too should opportunity arise. Depends how keen you are to relocate if you can wait wait for TPE. Nothing wrong with a speculative email to FTPE, as a current driver you will be easier to train and they will like that.

That's great stuff guys. I did make it down to the last two recently for the vacant FTPE Scarborough position, but another lad from our FCC Hitchin depot has got it (well I believe he has, there was only him & myself left after interviews and assessment),so I have been told that my file stays active for 6 months should another possible vacancy arises (don't think Scarborough will) but maybe York ?? So my partner and myself have decided to wait for Xmas and 3 birthdays (4 children) so by end of January look at possible register with Northern if FTPE looks doubtful. Ideally York still, but maybe Leeds for starters (will I be allow to commute from York area to Leeds for work??).
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
oh I was absolutely gutted not to get position, children especially as they love visiting York/ Yorkshire and my lad George (7) like me loves Leeds Utd (sorry folks).
