Hi i've put in during december for a delay compensation as the train i was on was over 1 hour late getting me to manchester vic and then while i was on the train it got cancelled. I Received a rail voucher but i've e-mail them back and asked if i can get a cheque as i always like to buy my tickets online they finally e-mailed me back saying
the voucher could be returned and a cheque/cash issued, however it would be for the official amount payable under the Passenger Charter, ie £2.75

How come they can only pay me £2.75?

£2.75 is therefore correct.

How much did they send you in the voucher?

I believe £2.75 is correct.

From Northern Passenger Charter
If a disruption to our services adds an hour or more to your journey we will offer you compensation to the value of at least 50% of the fare you paid for your journey.

Probably best keeping the voucher I reckon.

And thankfully once the new northern franchise starts in April, they will have to start operating under delay repay.

That's not a good thing! I don't think there's anyone who'd choose £2 over a day's free travel.

But the OP reports in post #8 that the rail voucher was for £5, not for a day's free travel on Northern Rail. It may be that Northern have ceased issuing vouchers for a day's free travel due to the impending change of franchise holder.

Delay repay sets in after 30 minutes too and is at a higher compensation rate then that currently offered under the passengers charter.
