Hi,

Today I applied for the role of conductor for Northern Rail at Newcastle Station. I was just wondering how many people usually apply for these roles and if they're usually are many roles up for grabs?

I'm currently a Police Officer who wants out of the force and prior to that was a manager at Sainsburys - are these considered to be transferable skills for the role by the organisation?

Was also wondering how long the application process usually takes?

Many thanks for all replies, its much appreciated.

Paul

In all honesty it depends what you felt you learnt from those roles - traditionally a manager has to take charge but it's also a question of would you stick your neck out, would you question something etc. You need to be able to cherry pick skills from that job that are pertinent to the railway, potentially explain how you used them in your old job and how they could transfer across to conducting.

The self motivation is a good one as even though you're with passengers, in terms of staffing you could be on your own for hours at a time with potentially no familiar faces to talk to, so it's how you convey that sense of self responsibility really...
