Northern Rail Complementary Pass Routes - lancaster to hull?

I have one of those "free single journey anywhere on the Northern network" delay repay tickets, and at the risk of asking a stupid question wanted to double-check that my journey plans are kosher.

I'm looking to travel from Lancaster to Hull. I figure the first leg will be Lancaster to Leeds, then from looking at the journey planner it seems the next hop is Leeds to Selby before finally getting a train from Selby to Hull

I have two questions:

1) Is this actually the most sensible route, given the restriction to Northern services? I'm not especially familiar with anything north-east of Manchester.

2) Is this within the definition of a single journey for the complimentary travel pass?

I realise the answer is probably "of course it is" to both, but a second opinion will help put my mind at ease.

1. Try fastjp.com. It can show the fastest routes, such as changing at Preston and York.

2. Yes. Any station served by Northern to any other station served by Northern. Provided the route you take is reasonable you'll be fine.

I am not sure as I do not know your intended departure time or travel date.

I do not see how it could possibly fall outside such a definition.

The answer to question 2 is yes.

To question 1; there are 2 (or at a push, 3) routes you could take. The first is the one you mention in your post. The second involves going via Preston, Burnley and Leeds (with changes at Preston and Leeds). The slightly unusual one is via Manchester and Leeds, either via Hebden Bridge or Huddersfield. A 'normal' ticket is routed "Any Permitted" and is set by TPE so is presumably valid via Manchester and Leeds anyway; though I'm not sure whether routeing is an issue on the Northern special tickets anyway.

Using FastJP (http://www.fastjp.com/#home), the fastest Northern only journey opportunities involve a change at Preston and York; or Leeds and Doncaster.
