I was also caught out by this this week. I didn't check and turned up for a Barnsley train that didn't exist. Then the train I was on broke down between Wakefield and Barnsley. Then on the return journey the remaining hourly service which was still showing as running on realtimetrains and the trainline, was in fact also cancelled because it was the same broken down unit stuck in Barnsley station. So what should have been a quick trip turned into a five and a half hour marathon.

There were also a few late drivers etc putting spanners in the works last week as well. Fortunately back to normal now.

I see Northern have waited until the works in Sheffield to complete and have now started promoting their new Leeds - Wakefield Westgate - Sheffield service which actually started in December but for some reason have decided to coin it the 'Yorkshire Flyer'(!)

Northern has launched a new fast train service which will allow customers to travel between Leeds and Sheffield in 47 minutes.
Known as the Yorkshire Flyer, as it provides a quick and convenient connection between the White Rose county’s two biggest cities, the service was officially launched during an event at Leeds station earlier today.

The morning peak pre-'Yorkshire Flyer' I got on 29 December had all of five passengers on it - take-up improved today and this should be a boon to Barnsley travellers who no longer have to share their fast services with all of the Sheffield passengers.

This seems a very sensible move on their part. Fair play to them.

Bad timing, seems the incident at Woolley Tunnel means they are removed....
