Northern Medical

I'm wondering for those that have had their medical for Northern what it entails? I suspect that it will be the standard eyesight, hearing, drug testing, BMI etc Then speak with the doctor if there are pre-existing health conditions?

I've heard some say that it's done by the railway medical officer and others mention it's done through your GP who then forwards on the results.

Any help or assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

It’s done with medigold usually. Entails - eye test, hearing test, medical history, blood pressure, weight, ECG as well. Nothing too daunting really

Depends even for a safety-critical role. Drivers have slightly different medicals to guards for example.

Completely agree - I was just trying to give another example of why you'd need to know to give an answer.

In which case it's eyesight (including colourblindness), drug and alcohol testing, height and weight, ECG and hearing. They'll also assess your mobility and ask info on any medication you're taking or if you've been to your GP for anything in the past 12 months. If there is an issue they may ask for an additional report from your GP or refer you to a specialist but if everything is normal it'll just be dealt with by the occupational health practitioner - as mentioned above Northern currently use a company called Medigold.

It's the last step in the recruitment process before a final offer and will only be done when a conditional offer with start date is made - normally a month or so before the start date.
