Hello all,

I was wondering if someone could give me some information on the shift pattern that Northern drivers, based at the Manchestet depots (Piccadilly and Victoria) currently work to, please?

Specifically, earliest start time, latest finish time, how many days off vs working days, etc.

Thanks in advance for any info!

The exact timings will depend on the link you're in (you'll begin in the Starter link) but broadly speaking, you can expect to book on and off at almost any time of day. Both depots work some pretty early and late services.

It's an average 4 day week, plus a committed Sunday every 4 weeks.

There’s no starter link at Victoria, you’ll be placed in one of the four links by the LLC. The chances are you’ll end up shadowing a line until a vacancy becomes available, don’t plan your life too far ahead as the vacancy may have a different rest day pattern.
It’s a 4 day week with committed Sundays, it averages as 1 in 4 across the link.
The earliest book on is about 0300 and the latest finish is about 0230. There is a night ferry turn now but not sure what work is actually on it.

Thanks so far for the replies.
How much of what we'd typically call 'Night working' is involved? I.e. post-midnight?
Are there any full night-shifts, for instance, working between 22:00-07:00?
Are there more of these, than there are typical day-shifts?

Thanks again, as always. J

There’s plenty of jobs finishing after midnight. Piccadilly did have some night work (I’m not sure if they still do). Victoria has recently introduced a night ferry turn but I’m not sure what actual work is in it.
There’s a mix of early , middle and late at Victoria. I think the bias is slightly towards the later finishes as you’re taking trains to the depot. There is plenty of earlier finishing lates though (1900 onwards).
