Hello, I've shortlisted to attend to the assessment day for an engineering apprenticeship at Norhern Rail (level 3). In the email they say I will receive an schedule soon, but I want to start preparing it straight away! Does anyone know what kind of assessments I might face on the day? I’m guessing there will be a group activity, but I'm unsure what else to expect. Unfortunately, I don’t know anyone who has been through this process, so any advice would be really helpful!

Hi there. I would expect some sort of verbal & numerical reasoning task and possibly some sort of reasoning or situational judgment task too. These are the sort of things that occur, but the exact specifics are probably difficult to know.

Hi everybody, I've been invited to an assessment day for the rail engineering level 3 apprenticeship at northern rail and I was just wondering if anybody here has any pointers on what sort of thing I can expect.

I know there's a group task and 2 individual tasks but I'm not entirely sure how best to prepare, I've already done a mechanical comprehension test and wondered if there was more of this or if it's more of a soft skills type of thing.

The group task might be something on the lines of building a Lego tower with your teammates or deciding what items to keep on a hypothetical raft, the important part is to make sure you are communicating and contributing to the group task.
They are looking for people who are able to communicate well and work as a team, not somebody who is not contributing or who's going to be taking charge.

As for mechanical individual task(s), as long as you have a basic understanding of how to piece things together you'll be fine, you a gain mark for as simple thing as looking through all of your tools.
There have been stories of people who have completely disassembled their item and have still become an apprentice (and stories of people getting frustrated and throwing the item, obviously failing).

Be calm, have fun and try your best.

Going for a similar one myself soon.

I just wish Google wasn't so terrible these days so I could actually find things out about the assessment day...
