Northern Delay Repay Return Journey

I have two delay repay return Northern tickets as Barnsley to Slaithwaite very late. It looks like I can choose date, start station and end station. Can only travel on Northern.

Can I fill in Huddersfield -> Newcastle on ticket and go

Huddersfield-> Bradford Interchange, walk
Bradford Forster Sq -> Skipton
Skipton -> Carlisle
Carlisle -> Newcastle
and return?

There are no published routing restrictions on these tickets, so I don't see why not. I very much doubt the guard will be fussed.

For clarity's sake, and for others potentially browsing the forum in the future, it is also permitted to go Huddersfield - York (on Northern) and then buy a ticket York - Darlington or Middlesbrough, and then travel on Northern from there to Newcastle

Seems like a totally logical way to get from Huddersfield to Newcastle on Northern services only, to me. As others have said, go for it.
